The Mediocre Beginning

(Y/N)'s POV

My name is (Y/N) Trancy, and you probably know more about my twin brother Alois Trancy than about me.  I know, I'm pretty bad at introductions but then again, I don't really have much to say about myself.  As I'm sitting on the edge of my bed in my cold and empty room, all I can hear is the sounds of my own breathing and pen tapping.  It's actually quite lonely now that I think about it, but all I'm doing is writing and keeping to myself, hoping that my words can keep me company.

"(Y/N), supper is ready.  If you don't mind, please come down."  I hear Hannah's voice echo throughout the halls, followed by a few footsteps.  She doesn't need to come up here, so I wonder just who it is.

"IF YOU DON'T GO DOWN THERE I'M EATING YOUR FOOD!"  And of course, that's the brat that calls himself my brother, it's a wonder how that boy stays so skinny.

I immediately swing open the door, right after jumping to my feet and walking.  I glare at Alois, "I was getting up.  How about you be a little more patient."  I stomp my way past him, ignoring the rest of what he had to say, after all, he usually was just background noise to me anyway.  Walking down the stairs, I gently graze my hand against the long banister just as always.  That's when I feel a full force push from behind me, followed by a not so sympathetic 'oops'.  I don't know why he had the need to do stupid things like this, but nonetheless, he sent me falling down towards the carpeted floor in front of me.

"Mistress (Y/N) are you okay?"  I was caught just before I fell by our beautiful and introverted demon maid.  Usually in Alois's presence, she would have been scared and shaking, but good thing she wasn't quite like that when it came to protecting us.

I tried to dust off my dress, as Hannah placed me back safely on the ground, making sure that I wasn't hurt in any way. "Yes, Hannah, you don't need to worry about me.  You should worry about Alois, and how he makes a living off being a brat."

"What in bloody hell are you talking about?  Maybe you shouldn't be such a—"

Another voice cut off the vile words that Alois was going to use, "Master Alois."  It was our butler, Claude, and it seemed like he was just about done with our bickering.  "I suggest the two of you get to eating the supper that Hannah has prepared."

At that very moment, Alois changed his whole personality, trying to act like the two of us weren't just fighting.  "Yes, of course I knew that, Claude!  We must get to eat at once."  He left running down the corridor towards the dinner table.  I rolled my eyes, knowing that he was only acting like that for attention.

Of course, I calmly walked down to the second floor of our manor, sitting down on my reserved seat as our chefs and maids served us our share.  The blonde who sat across the table was eating his food in a hurry, as if he had something important to do.  Not that he did, because all he did was brag, eat, curse, and sleep, or maybe he didn't even do that.  He didn't have any manners, and plus he acts like he owns everything, no wonder Claude doesn't even like him.

Once he finished his food and wiped his mouth with a napkin, he stood up on his chair, making Hannah panic at the seat she had just made sparkly clean.  "Everyone I just had an idea!"

I pinched the bridge of my nose.  His ideas never turned out well, and I can tell that it won't change with one sentence.  "Sit down, why don't you!  Not everything revolves around you!"

"Shut up.  I don't want to hear your voice right now."  He raised a finger into the air, silencing the whispering maids and other servants in the background.  "I declare that we're going to have a masquerade... TOMORROW!"

That's the moment that I stood up, not on my chair of course, I have much better manners than my brother.  "What???  You can't just say that out of nowhere and expect everyone to go along with it!!!"

Thinking he was being clever, he smirked, "I didn't say it, I declared it."

"Same thing dumbass!"  I placed my hands on my hips and huffed.  He was using an unnecessarily large amount of annoyingness today, and it was really getting on my nerves, not that he always didn't, just that I REALLY didn't like his idea of a ball.

Having no regard for my words, he cleared his throat, he pointed at the servants, "All of you!  Get to work at once!  We want the guests to be pleased!"  This immediately made the servants run around in a panic, starting to decorate and set up the ballroom on the first floor.  He then turned to Claude, "And you!   Get me an outfit fitting only for a host!"

"Yes.  Of course, Master Alois."  He went on his way immediately, not even giving it a second thought.

"What about me?  What am I to do?"  I wanted him to stop giving demands, and a ball was only going to give him too much attention, which of course he'll be bragging about for at least a week.

"You.... you can go trim the rose bushes again!"

"Alois!"  I puffed out my cheeks and folded my arms, "Last time I did that I got my foot stuck in the thorns and Hannah had to pull me out!"

"Quit it with your bloody whining and just get out of my way then."  He then did a small, half-assed wave, obviously not caring for what I said, before walking down to the first floor, seeing if the servants were doing exactly as they were told.  I shook my head and rolled my eyes, tomorrow was going to be the worst day of my life, wasn't it?
