I jolted up, smacking my head on my roofed sleeping area, gasping for air, drenched in sweat, I sigh in relief, realizing that it was just a nightmare.
I get up from my bed, bags under my eyes, it feels like I haven't slept at all, yet I don't want to sleep. "Hey Siri, what time is it?" I drowsily sputter into my phone, "It is 6:27 PM" It replies. I'm shocked at how late I've slept in, so I get up, get dressed, and fix myself something random with whatever I had in my fridge. I stepped outside into the pouring rain, a big-rig truck rolled past and subsequently dissipated into the darkness.
I walk outside into the gloom, scanning what barely visible things my tired eyes could make out when in the corner of my eye, I see the faint outline of a horse, I look over at it, and sure enough, it seems there is a horse standing in the rain, barely visible, looking at me from the side, then suddenly, a strike of lightning in the distance, simultaneous to a thundercrack, reveals the horse to have a boney growth upon its head, curved like a scimitar, I blink, and this creature is directly in front of me, staring down with its empty black holes in its skull like-visage, this blade-like horn extending from its head. "𝕵𝖚𝖘𝖙 𝖆 𝖓𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙𝖒𝖆𝖗𝖊," it says through its fanged teeth, and a drop of blood runs down from the horn, off the edge of the creature, onto the tip of my nose, In my paranoia, I made no attempt to even blink, I held my eyes open as long as I could until I slammed them shut, and it was gone, I look down at my phone and navigate to the call app, and I frantically press down Arthur's contact multiple times. "Charlotte, what's the matter?" Arthur says, "You need to come down here, I need to talk to you right now" I reply, in my best possible 'calm' voice. I sprint back to my house, terrified.
Arthur knocks on the door and I reluctantly let him in, and he closes the door and leans on it. "What's up?" he says, clearly confused. "the- the unicorn" is the best I'm able to muster while I'm so stricken with fear. "Charlotte, are you okay?" he once more replies "N-no," I say shakily. I look over at the unicorn, nothing is different about it, sitting in the same position, until I see a crimson drip fall from the tip of its plastic horn. Arthur snaps his fingers a few times, "Charlotte, do I need to take you to a hospital?" he says with a concerned look on his face, I nod nervously, and he helps me up and takes me outside to his car.
Arthur and I get inside the car and begin to drive to the local hospital. I absent-mindedly stare out the window of the SUV, contemplating if I'm just losing it, when Arthur says "The thunder's spooking the horses out in Mr. Abernathy's farm, some of them have broken out even," "Yeah I think I might have seen one of them, scared the living shit out of me." I reply "You never did like horses," Arthur says, laughing. I resume staring out the window as we pass the farm, looking at the fields, I see several horses, I look to the other side of the car, out of Arthur's side, and see two more, and, to my disturbance, the Unicorn standing amongst them. "I thought Mr. Abernathy only had 5 horses," Arthur confusedly says, "I don't know, you work for him, not me" I reply. Suddenly, Arthur slams on the breaks, I look at what he nearly hit, and, see the Unicorn standing there, staring at us head on. "Jesus chri- is that horse wearing a mask?" Arthur asks.
"No, no no no no no no" I begin repeating. "Horses don't normally look at people head on, that isn't normal," Arthur says as the Unicorn begins to charge at the car. "OH MY GOD!" shouts Arthur as he tries to outmaneuver the horse on the road, crashing the back end of the car into a fence, but making it nonetheless, Arthur slams on the gas pedal, and the engine roars, and we're headed full speed from the farm and onto the empty road.
"That unicorn" I spit. I look behind the car to see where the Unicorn was now.
it's Skull was directly in my face once again
"𝕴 𝖆𝖒 𝖎𝖓𝖊𝖝𝖔𝖗𝖆𝖇𝖑𝖊"
Arthur crashes the car.
