Chapter 1

Adeline's POV

Pain'

Agony'

Is all i felt, from my legs to my stomach where I was kicked repeatedly, I was now laying in a fetal position crying, trying to overcome the pain, but the feeling of my hair being pulled got me out of my shock and made me look up into the face of my stepfather,

' Smack '

"Shut up or you"ll wake them up" he smiled evilly and smirked with satisfaction , " I hope that teaches you to respect me, next time it'll get worse if my dinner is not served on time, got it?" he spat, I quickly nodded.

"Good, now get up and clean this mess up!" he said as he let go of my hair and walked through the kitchen doors. I sighed with relief but clutched my head feeling the pain from getting my hair pulled. I layed on the kitchen floor for what seemed hours trying to move my legs to stand up but as I tried to stand, my legs gave away, I quickly leaned and held onto the countertop for support, I took deep breaths to calm myself and stop my tears I still had chores to finish. After I was done with my chores I climbed the stairs quietly and went to check up on my sisters.

Thankfully they were all sleeping soundly and without disturbance, I stayed there for a few minutes looking at their peaceful faces and wondering if I was ever going to be able to sleep like them. I only took all this torture from my stepfather because of them, they meant everything in the world to me and they needed me especially my baby sister who was 4 months old. Thats the reason I was going to work extra hard this year to finish my Senior year, save some money and try to find my real father to get us out of this hell called home. Unfortunately my real father left to follow his dream years ago and finding him would be difficult but I couldn't let my stepfather take away my family like that I was going to fight for my sisters and their custody.

With my new sense of courage I made my way to my room silently praying that my stepfather was asleep in his room but as I reached my room I held my breath and gasped'....." Wha-......?
