A Fixed Dream

It had been five months since Asta had left this world, the church had never been so quiet ever since. No one was smiling, no one was speaking, and no one was happy,

the sky was cloudy grey with no sun in sight. Yuno was outside with an axe in hand chopping the wood he gathered, ever since his brother passed away, Yuno never used his grimoire and rarely used his Wind Magic to help around the church he wanted to do things the way his brother did them, his burden had now become Yuno's and he was damn sure he wasn't going to let his rivals death be in vain or let his memory be forgotten, the five leaf grimoire he found seemed to follow Yuno around like a moth to a candle, one moment he would turn and the next the grimoire was in front of him.

Next to him was a big mound of chopped logs 'Asta' Yuno thought as he brought the axe down on another log merely splitting it half way, 'If you were still here, you'd be chopping wood with your bare hands, proposing to Sister Lily and she would beat you down with her magic'

he smiled at that funny memory when his brother would ask Lily to marry him hundreds of times, and each time she would either say 'no' or would smack him down with her water magic. He brought his foot down on the axe making it split the wood in two. After he was done he set the axe down, finishing the last of his new chores around the church, he made his way over to the nearby woods where Asta would train.

Yuno turned to see if anyone was looking before getting on his stomach, flattening his back and tried to push himself back up, well he did "try" but he only succeeded in lifting a few centimeters off the ground before plopping down already exhausted, his arms and legs trembling in exhaustion.

'Damn it' Yuno said in his head 'why am I so weak. Im strong in my magic, but not physically. How does Asta do this, and hundreds of these things everyday'

Yuno refused to give up. With new resolve replacing the old one he lifted himself off the ground again no matter how much his arms or legs begged him to stop. After doing what? Just one.

He got up with shaking legs, ignored the pain before making his way back to the orphanage, stopping to a giant sycamore and at the base of it sat a tombstone. With the words inscribed onto it

"HERE LIES ASTA. BELOVED FRIEND AND FAMILY OF HAGE VILLAGE. HIS BODY AND SPIRIT ARE NOW PART OF HEAVEN AND EARTH"

memories flooded Yuno's mind when he and Asta were young, Asta would always climb the sycamore. Failing several or more times than Yuno could count before making it too and hanging onto one of its giant branches. Father Orsi almost had a heart attack when he discovered the orphan, his tiny hands only grasping the tree branch and his feet dangling below him.

Yuno could feel his eyes stinging and getting damp, he winced as he knelt down to the tombstones level, his hand brushing the rough stone tracing over the words themselves. A clump of clovers had grown at the base of the grave, Yuno sighed as his eyes grew more damp

"hey Asta, sorry if I kept you waiting"

he said with a sad smile, but his face read pain and sadness his hands were now shaking, he told his buried rival of what he accomplished today with his new chores around the church,

"Im going to the magic knight entrance exam in a month"

he said, he knew that if his brother was still here he would probably criticise Yuno to give it his all and wait for him to get his grimoire so that they could both become proud magic knights and one of them become the Wizard King. For some reason that dream didn't bring happy thoughts to Yuno, it plagued his mind now thinking about it. That dream is what got his brother killed and left Yuno with no intention to use his grimoire,

his four leaf grimoire felt more like an extra weight to that guilt. After all he failed to save Asta did he really deserve to be the Wizard King, did he deserve this grimoire, let alone. Did he even deserve to have the magic he possessed.

"Asta... I... I don't think I should... become the Wizard King"

if Asta had heard that he would rise from the ground and bitch slap Yuno and give him some words of advice to not give up on that dream that was now shattered into a million pieces. That brought another question that continued to fill Yuno's brain.

Why did he want to become the Wizard King? Ever since Asta had taken care of him when they were young he felt inspired and determined to prove he was the best and show his rival that he could take care of himself.

"Are there any good people left in this world?"

Yuno said to himself, before shaking his head and wiping an arm across his eyes brushing the tears he didn't realise he shed "No. There are good people. But they're being trampled on by the boot of unfairness"

he smiled as he connected his shaking fist to the cold stone of grave

'if no will do anything about this corrupt kingdom and society, I'll do it'

"Asta. Continue to watch me" he stood up and found Sister Lily embracing him stroking his messy black hair while she herself sniffed and huffed in sadness "Sister" Yuno started "y-yes?" she mumbled back "I think I now know why I want to be the Wizard King" she only nodded in understanding. 'A Wizard King who won't let others suffer and be free and equal. I like the sound of that. Don't you think so too Asta'.

Authors Notes: so yeah, everyones miserable now that Asta's gone and Yuno has to hold on to his new dream of being the Wizard King.
