I love surprises, good or bad. It's my weekly dose of serotonin. A surprise I didn't expect to wake up to, however, was being given the news that I had acquired the role of Vonnie Lancaster. I was given the news through text, by Ariana. An even bigger surprise? Ariana would be playing the role of Stacy Smith, Vonnie Lancaster's rival/arch nemesis. The last surprise resulted from me checking the clock beside my bed, and realizing that rehearsal started thirteen minutes ago. I quickly hop out of bed and get dressed and ready in a rush.

Upon stepping into the auditorium for rehearsal this Sunday morning, my nose was invaded by the scent of productivity. Everyone was doing something. Whether it was putting together a costume, running lines, doing vocal warm ups. The door shuts loudly behind me, provoking Ms. Bodine's attention.

"Ms. Dewitz, you're late." she called out. She looked as if she were helping other students prepare their costumes.

"I know," I approach her quickly. "Sorry, I overslept a little."

"It's alright. Your costume is in the fifth closet, here's the key." She hands me a small brass key. "Let me know if it doesn't fit." I nod, before walking backstage. I hear a familiar giggle coming from behind the curtain. I slowly pulled it to the side.

My heart shattered into many different pieces. I expected a million different things, but not Ariana making out with a guy. Luke Francis. Teen player and quarterback for the school football team. But I was more worried about Ariana. I had only known her for a few days. And we'd only texted and FaceTimed a few times. But I felt as though we had something. Whatever, what's done is done.

I walked to the closet with my head down, mindful and in high regards that a teenage couple was making out behind the curtain.

But trying to unlock the closet was the most frustrating thing. I tried different ways to get the key in, but to no use. I sighed.

"Need help?" the familiar bittersweet voice from behind me said. Ariana approached the behind of me and placed her hand over mine.

"You have to turn it left, right, then take it out." her hand guided mine, while her breath caressed the back of my neck, sending chills throughout my body. I never thought that today would be the day that I'd get my first gay panic. But it happened. The wardrobe finally opened.

"Why thank you," I snickered. I picked up my costume and walked into the direction of the ladies' changing room.

Rehearsal finishes, and I wait behind for Ariana. She comes out of the changing room, wearing her normal school clothes.

"Want a ride home?" she asks me as she approaches me swiftly, her purse clutched by her side.

"Would be appreciated, can I?" I smiled at her, beggingly. She laughs.

"Of course you can." We walk to her car and get in. She starts her car, before looking at me.

"Do you want to come over to my place? To read lines together obviously?" she says, so, so, so slickly.

"Sure," I excite myself. She drives off into the direction of her home.
