They now stood in a large clearing. Garley was feeling better, walking over the ground among the fruit trees. From afar, he could see a lake, and on the other side of its shore large there were thin sinewy trees. Now they were close to the Trail of Thorns, which would lead them to Mount Tylan.

Alix was walking beside Alastor. He was alive and well, after all. Once he had scared off the scorpions, he went into the same tunnel Alix's parents had gone through. It was a longer way, but without any obstacles. Alastor stayed there near the exit of the tunnel. The dragon moved with difficulty, badly injured with deep scratches all over his body.

The group decided to make a quick stop. The girl sprayed medicine on her dragon's wound,s though he didn't enjoy that one bit.

Garley asked her to spray some of it on his ankle, which was swollen.

"It hurts," Garley complained, clenching his teeth. "I still prefer the other spray."

"This one is pretty efficient too," said Alix, spraying some more. "I hope so," he said, feeling the sharp stings of pain.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I was attacked twice by tentacles, one of them made of steel, but I'm okay," he answered.

"Besides, thanks for you saving my life."

Garley held her hand for a moment before quickly releasing it. Alix looked at him, worried.

"You're cold. You need eat something," she said, and gave him some medicinal plant leaves. "Maybe it's the adrenaline..."

Walking from behind the tree where they were resting, Jorge came through carrying handfuls of some strange fruit.

"It was incredible when you broke Mr. Gordon's magical weapon, man!" he said, impressed. "That was the most horrifying weapon I had ever seen!"

"Yeah, I was lucky. If my sword hadn't broken it in half, I wouldn't have been able to stand against him much longer," Garley replied. "But actually, I'd probably be dead if it weren't for Alix."

They remained silent as the breeze blew past their faces.

"This is delicious!" said Jorge, taking a large bite from his fruit.

"Don't eat that, Jorge! It could be dangerous!" advised Alix. "Did you at least wash them?"

"Chill, Alix. You should try some."

"No! We don't even know if it's poisonous," she said, crossing her arms.

"Well, it isn't bitter, so it must be healthy," he replied. Garley began eating them as well.

Alix looked at him, surprised and frowning. "You too, Garley?"

"What's the problem?" he asked, looking at her without understanding. "I washed it."

Alix shook her head and rested against the tree trunk.

"All this trouble must be making you two senseless. You don't know that fruit! You know what... I don't care if you feel sick later! I'm exhausted!"

After eating, Jorge made a terrible impression of someone having a seizure. Garley and he laughed while Alix ignored them and closed her eyes.

Laura appeared with a jar of water and handed out glasses. Garley gulped the ice-cold water, quenching his thirst. He wished he could stay there, resting underneath that tree, but Laura told them they would be leaving in just five minutes.
