The Night Sky

Chapter 1

Caitríona walked through the streets of Alexiah, the largest city on planet Menedék. It was her seventeenth birthday. She watched several ships fly through the dark blue sky. She longed to be with them. She was currently training to be a pilot and travel throughout the galaxy. Caitrìona dreamed of flying to the ruins of planet Earth and helping to restore nature. Centuries before, humans abused their planet to the point of destruction. Each country was able to send one person on a spaceship in search of a new home for civilization. That's when they found Menedék. The rolling hills, flowing streams, and snowy mountains welcomed them, and so they began their new lives. The founders decided in rather than splitting the planet into state, to keep themselves unified as one large country. Many different cultures joined together and combined to make the world Caitríona knows today.
Caitríona walked through the doors of the city building. She had recently gotten a job there as a receptionist. Engraved to stones on the wall were the flags of all the countries from Earth. She walked along the marble floors until she got to the elevator. She looked out the glass wall at the city below. The bright lights and buzzing made the city look so alive. Caitríona exited the door and went to her desk. She looked at the projected holographic screen in front of her. Before she could find her work for the day, her advisor, Ezra, walked up to her. "Good morning Caitríona. Please ignore your current list, the Prime Minister has requested you. Please follow me." He started walking away. She froze at her seat. "What does the Prime Minister want with me?" She thought. She scrambled from her seat and joined Ezra. She approached the large silver doors. Ezra knocked four times. After a moment, she heard a strong voice say, "Come in." Ezra pulled open the doors. She stepped inside.
