Andrea Sachs unlocked the door to Miranda Priestly's townhouse. She was handing in the book, & this time she wasn't gonna mess it up. The last time she had done it, she broke two rules, including the most important one, that Emily had given her. She had went upstairs & spoke to someone! Gladly, she didn't get fired, but who knows what would happen if it happened again.
She reached the table with the flowers on it, when she heard Miranda calling for her. Andrea went through to the living room to find her sitting on the couch watching Netflix & drinking wine. She paused the TV as soon as Andrea came in.
"Sit down," Miranda said, putting her hand out for the book.
Andrea gave her the book & looked around, not sure which seat she would be allowed to sit in.
"Any seat will do!"
Andrea was surprised. Why was Miranda being somewhat...nice? Something wasn't right here. Miranda was always a strict, icy sort of person, even to her best friend. Andrea thought about it more, looking at the photos in the room. There were photos of Miranda & the twins & some of Nigel & other people whom she didn't know. The crazy thing about all of it, was Miranda was smiling & having a laugh. She even had a funny face photo with the twins & Nigel. It was like she was a different person.
"Andrea, it would be rather nice of you to come to the awards ceremony tomorrow night," Miranda said, not making any eye contact.
"Miranda, I couldn't..." Andrea started.
"I insist," Miranda interrupted, looking at Andrea for the first time that evening.
Andrea nodded & gave Miranda a small smile. Two women were quiet for a few moments, as the two were unsure on what to say. It was Miranda who broke the silence.
"White or red?" She asked.
Andrea looked at her, confused.
"Wine," Miranda said. "White or red wine?"
"White."
Miranda stood up & took a bottle of white wine.
"Miranda, I should go. It's getting late. Nate will wonder where I am," Andrea said, standing up.
"Nonsense, Andrea. One glass won't do any harm."
Miranda smirked & poured two glasses.
"Though hopefully," Miranda said to herself. "you'll stay for more"...
