Hawks woke up with a splitting headache. He climbed out of his bed and opened his medicine cabinet. Where were his suppressants?
"Morning." A voice called from the doorway causing Hawks to jump.
"What're you doing here?" Hawks asked, glaring at Rumi.
"You've been sick and I've been taking care of you're dumb ass." Rumi laughed, "I bet you're looking for these? They came yesterday." The other hero handed Hawks his new bottle of suppressants.
"Thanks." Hawks muttered.
Rumi leaned against the door frame, "Hey, some weird stuff happened while you were sick. You kept having these nightmares and you were little the whole time. I didn't even know you were a little. What was all of that about?"
Hawks cleared his throat. He didn't know what to say. How was he supposed to explain everything to her? The commission, the suppressants, Touya. How do you explain that to your best friend? Hawks barely managed to hear his phone buzz in the other room. He quickly checked it to avoid the conversation and his face dropped. It was his handler. He'd been sick for nearly a week?
"Fuck! I have to go!" Hawks announced, grabbing his coat and scrambling for his shoes, barely being able to pull them onto his feet in his still weakened state.
Rumi grabbed Hawks' shoulders, "Whoa, slow down sweetie. What's going on?"
"I can't... I don't- I don't have time! I have to go now!" Hawks rushed out his door and down the hall in a panic.
That night Hawks stared out at the street blankly, trying to focus on his tasks. His night patrol was dragging on. He was tired and his wings hurt. The conversation with his handler kept playing over in his head.
"I'm sorry. It won't happen again..." Hawks muttered.
"It certainly won't, Hawks. We'll make sure of it."
Hawks could feel his head space creeping up on him. Maybe it was a side effect of the sickness, he hoped so, that it would go away along with the headache and fatigue in a few days. Hawks shook a suppressant into his palm. He was about to pop it onto his mouth when a gruff voice startled him, almost making him drop the pill.
"I thought you would have learned your lesson about abusing suppressants after being home sick for a week." Dabi said, snatching the pill bottle from the blond.
"What are you doing here?!" Hawks asked, reaching out for the pill bottle, "Give those back!"
The black haired man stuffed the bottle into his pocket, "You don't need to take two a day Birdbrain. And relax a little would ya. I just wanted to talk. I'm not gonna hurt you or anything. I even brought you dinner." Dabi replied, holding up two bags.
Hawks relaxed a bit, silently walking over to the other man. Dabi handed the hero a bag. Hawks pulled the takeout out of the bag and instantly began eating. It had been too long since he sat down to eat, Rumi probably had him eat something while he was sick but he hadn't eaten anything all day and usually ate quite a lot.
"See you were hungry. It's a good thing I came." Dabi laughed.
"I would have gotten food eventually." Hawks muttered around a mouth full of noddles, still half out of his mouth.
"Don't talk with your mouth full." Dabi scolded the younger, "And no you wouldn't have, it's already after nine."
Hawks didn't reply he just continued to shove noodles into his mouth. Dabi ate his own food. He glanced over at Hawks noticing the blonde pushing his vegetables around with his chopsticks.
"Eat your vegetables." Dabi told the other man.
Hawks sneered at the vegetables, "I don't wanna."
"Hawks." Dabi replied, "You need to eat them, they're good for you."
"Imma grown man, I c'n make my own decisions." Hawks muttered, crossing his arms.
Dabi sighed, "Tell ya what, if you can eat them all then I'll give you pudding."
Hawks perked up a little, "Really?"
"Yeah, just eat the damn vegetables first." Dabi told him.
"So what are you here for?" Hawks asked, forcing himself to shovel some broccoli into his mouth.
Dabi lightly smacked the back of Hawks' head, "What did I say about talking with your mouth full?"
Hawks swallowed the vegetables before mumbling a quiet, "Sorry."
"To answer your question, I wanted to talk about your classification." Dabi explained.
Hawks almost dropped his chopsticks, "M-my... No! There's nothing to talk about!"
"Hawks. You can't keep doing this to yourself. We both know you got sick from abusing suppressants."
"I don't want to talk about this!" Hawks yelled.
"You need to be little, and you need someone to take care of you." Dabi added.
"I don't wanna talk about this!" Hawks tried to hold back the tears, "Please. I don't wanna talk about that right now."
Dabi ran his finger's through the boy's hair, suspecting that he was really trying to fight regressing now, "Okay. It's okay. Are you done with your veggies yet?"
"Mhm." Hawks nodded.
"Good boy. I'm very proud of you." Dabi smiled.
Hawks didn't seem to register that Dabi was starting to treat him like a child, he was too excited and proud because of the praise. He watched Dabi grab a pudding from his bag and open it for the blond. Hawks reached out for it but Dabi didn't give it to him.
"Alright open." Dabi held out the spoon.
Hawks glared at the taller man, "You never said anything about you feeding me!"
"I never said anything about you feeding yourself. Now open or you don't get any pudding."
Hawks reluctantly opened his mouth for Dabi to slip the spoon between his lips. He couldn't help but smile a little bit. It was good even if it was being fed to him and he wasn't doing it himself.
"Is that a smile?" Dabi smirked, "You're supposed to be upset, you aren't supposed to smile Birdie."
"Shuddup." Hawks pouted.
"Come here." Dabi sat down and pulled Hawks onto his lap.
Dabi offered the hero another spoonful of pudding, which he excepted. It continued like this until Dabi's phone buzzed. Hawks opened his mouth for another spoonful, but Dabi wasn't giving him any. The smaller whined.
"Just one second baby." Dabi kissed the top of his head, "I need to deal with something real quick."
"Wan' more pudding." Hawks whimpered, looking at the other man with big puppy dog eyes.
Dabi just knew that those eyes would be the death of him, "Aww, don't give me that look. I'll feed you in just a second."
Dabi set his phone back down and continued feeding Hawks the pudding. The boy smiled and excepted all of the pudding that was offered to him. As soon as it was gone Dabi picked up the tired boy.
"Nooo! Imma big boy." Hawks whined, barely keeping his eyes open.
Dabi chuckled, "I know you are, honey. Even big boys need a little help sometimes. Just go to sleep." Hawks quickly fell asleep on the man's shoulder, snuggling up to the warm body, "There's my baby Bird."
That's when Dabi noticed something strange about Hawks' wings. What was the commission doing to his sweet little bird?
