Hi guys, this is my first time writing a story in a long time. If you have any advice please let me know! Hope you enjoy.
Also, just a quick heads up, this story is labeled mature. There is the possibility of vulgar language, drugs, drinking, and sexual scenes.

I breathed in the cool, crisp air one final time. I got up, cleaning the sand from my pants. Turning around, I headed back to my car. As the sun was beginning to come up, a shadow was casted upon one side of my body.
I walked slowly. I knew the slower I walked, the slower I would need to face the reality of my daily life. This has been my favorite part of every day for the last two years. The only thing I could expect to stay the same in this ever changing world.
Finally reaching my car, I leaned against it. I smiled, enjoying the way the sky created an orange and yellow mix. The colors mixed and intertwining. It's as if the sky new to create a gradual change before it allowed itself to create a beautiful shade that would soon lead to the reflection upon the now dark ocean.
Once the sun was fully welcomed, I let out a breath of air once more and opened my car door. I tossed my water bottle on the seat beside me, and prayed for a little kindness so that my creaky, worn van would turn on.
When I heard the purr of the engine, I chuckled lightly with a grin, "Thank you, Bertha..."I knew she had her flaws, but this van was the best investment I ever made after I turned 18. She provided me with every journey that I know would one day lead to a future. Bertha, as I called my wide and tall black van, was more than just a vehicle for me. This was my home, my safety, and partner in crime.
Granted, it wasn't a conventional situation, but I have never been one to complain with the things that provide me some kindness. Which is why, I appreciated the music that my van provided me with. Listening to the CD, I mouthed the words that accompanied me in today's journey.
I was reaching the neighborhood where I usually parked. One of the houses owned by an elderly couple allowed me to stay parked in front of their home. A few years ago they had noticed my always loitering around in the mornings. Interestingly enough, the day they approached me they showed no fear that they were knocking on the window of a creepy, black van. Instead, it's as if they knew my situation. They even offered to allow me to stay in one of their rooms. I, however, declined because I didn't want to become a burden to anyone. I liked being able to come and go as I please, having my home take me where I needed.
Therefore, the elderly couple — Kathy and Laurel— allowed me to stay parked in front of their home so that I would not be fined for parking in a reserved parking neighborhood. Being extremely grateful, I always make sure to pay something in return and even help them with any home chores they need done. Though, I always seem to find the money back under my seat when I return from school or work. Understanding that they probably don't want money from a college student, I still make sure to be as helpful and respectful as I can be for their kind gestures.
Typically, I don't see my technical landlords. Maybe a few exchange of words, unless I know they need some help with their home duties.Today was not much different than other days. When I arrived, I found Laurel watering the grass in their yard. She gave me a wave, and then she returned her attention to the grass and her dog that seemed to just lay on her feet when she stood in a spot for long enough.Pulling into my usual parking spot, I made sure to press firmly on my parking break. Once it had stuck, I slid the curtain that divided my front seats from my makeshift tiny home. I managed to remove the seats from the back in order to add space for a bed, foldable shelving, and some miscellaneous supplies.
