Surprises...

Not the best thing for someone in the vigilante business.

Surprises could lead to defensive modes, defensive modes could lead to offensive modes and offensive modes could lead to serious injuries and or deaths.

Both options sounded better than what was happening at Wayne Manor, this exact minute...

Wayne Manor

Friday morning, everything was going exceptionally smooth, Alfred barely broke a sigh of exasperation as he woke all the children up for the morning.

Damian had already been up training in katana air motions in the garden, as per usual, Alfred's neatly trimmed animal shrubs were getting their heads and tails served to them.

Jon had an early night, no patrols, or training making him more than happy to comply and jump out of bed at Alfred's first knock.

Cass and Steph were already in the kitchen drinking their first cup of home-brewed Alfred tea while scanning through their textbooks for their morning exam.

Tim was already awake and after enjoying his second cup of coffee for the morning he decided to take a shower, Kon already there waiting for him with his infamous Super smirk on.

Jason and Dick were off on a mission only coming back this afternoon right on time to pick Damian and Jon up from school via Alfred's instructions.

And Bruce for once had the day off from Wayne Enterprises and managed to convince... wait, no. More persuade than convince Clark to stay home for the day the two of them not moving out of the bed until late morning, early afternoon.

Things were easy, calm, and undoubtedly too normal.

But Alfred dared not complain having his first simple and straight forward morning since before Dick was adopted.

The day went on like this.

Like for once, their lives worked on a daily routine based schedule.

And then a knock sounded at the door, three out of rhythm thumps against the large wooden framed manor door.

Alfred swore he felt an uneasy disruption in the universe as if the Earth had tilted off its axis in the opposite way and started spinning backward, instead, of forward.

It was almost indescribable as he made his way from the second-floor library down to the front door, he took a second to answer his arm outstretched and his hand hovering over the iron door handle.

"Alfred, who is it?" called Bruce as he finally opened the door with a small metal click.

"Hey, Alfred! Long time, no see. How you been?" Alfred kept a stoic expression on, while internally questioning himself as to why he deserved such a complicated life.

"Hello, Master Anthony," he greeted, "quite well and yourself?"

"Good, good," Tony muttered as Alfred stepped aside to let him in, Steve and Peter following silently behind, "kinda amazing how you're still here," he remarked jokingly and with a bright grin.

"Yes, it is," Alfred agreed monotonely, "isn't it?"

Tony creased his brow, but still smiled at the butler's response before turning to the side and introducing his two family members, "Alfred, this is my fiance Steve Rogers and our son Peter Parker. Guys, this is Alfred Pennyworth, my cousin's guardian angel."

"Butler is just fine," Alfred assured as he firmly shook each hand, "Pleasure to meet you both."

"You too, Tony's told us a lot about you," Steve politely smiled before he glanced around at the mansion it wasn't anything like the Avengers or Stark tower. It wasn't riddled with tech and modern-day furniture that made the place look something out of the 23rd century.
