The bright yellow and white fluorescent lights clouded my vision immediately, making it hard for me to see anything. Squinting, my eyes adjusted to the light and soon I was able to see.
To my surprise, I was strapped onto a hospital bed, my left arm in a bandage.
"What.." I mumbled to myself, catching the attention of a nurse, who was swiftly walking towards me.
"Lady Annabelle, you're awake," She began, her tone surprised but relieved.
"Um, how are you feeling?.." She sheepishly asked me, although she probably already knew.
"Confused." I told her, my mouth dry.
"Well, I'm sure we'll clear up everything for you once I alert the Doctor and the Royal family, so if you'll excuse me I will go do that."
She suddenly stopped, and stared at me expectantly, her eyes wide.
Oh, oh.
"Um, your excused?" It came out more of like a question, but she accepted it and took off.
The words sounded foreign to me, and I immediately wondered if that's what I'd have to say if I became a royal. But, that's impossible. I'd have to win the competition in order to be that.
My eyes wandered off and onto a large window, the soft breeze blowing into the white curtains that hung above them. Suddenly, the room became stuffy, and before I knew what I was doing, I was already sitting up, lifting up the covers of the bed.
Looking down, I was wearing a white dress. I already knew Crystal, Indigo and Autumn made it, I didn't even need to be told. It hung loosely on my body and went down just above my knees. And despite the wrinkled fabric, it looked effortlessly pretty.
My legs felt like jelly, and they shivered against the cold air that now surrounded them. Swiftly walking to the window, I yelped in pain as my bandaged arm hung loosely in the air. It felt as if someone had stabbed me multiple times, the pain echoing through out my body.
"Lady Annabelle!" The nurse called out frantically, this time she had doctors, Maxon, and the Queen behind her.
"What are you doing?"
"I was going to go to the window, to get some fresh air." My voice sounded weak, and small.
"But Miss, we haven't given you the pain killer yet. Why don't you lay back down? The surgery was only two hours ago."
"What?!" This time, I raised my voice loudly. Surgery? Why would I need surgery?
The Queen swiftly walked to me before the nurse could say anything else. "Annabelle, why don't you sit down? We need to explain some things to you." Amberly said to me gently, nodding, I sat down on the bed, a prepared myself for what was to come.
Maxon immediately sat next to me, his eyes furrowed.
"Annabelle, I just want you to start off by telling me the last thing you remember," Queen Amberly began.
The last thing I remember..
"Um, my mother.. she was hitting me and then got taken away, I was led out of the room.. then Trinity was crying, and Lela and all of the rest of the girls were huddled together watching me, and-Oh my god my sisters! Are they here? Where are they-"
Queen Amberly ignored my question.
"Good, so you remember what happened with your mother, correct?" Amberly asked me.
"Yes." I confirmed.
"Well afterwards, we had to surgically remove pieces of glass that were in your skin, some did require stitching, so be extra careful with you left arm. It was cut the most."
