Sunset Shimmer finished washing the dishes, and started getting ready for bed. As she pulled her pajamas on over her head, she caught a glimpse of the world outside her house. It was fast asleep, blinking with lights that could either be stars, or lamps from windows. Sunset heaved a sigh. That view never ceased to amaze her. It reminded her so much of Equestria at nighttime. When she had a family.

When Celestia found her as an orphan, she felt like she had a family again. WHY did she give that up?

And no she lived alone. Magic book or no magic book, she felt she was not of Equestria anymore. It was almost scary to think of it, because she felt she didn't belong there anymore. She felt like a star walking in hiding, amongst peasants.

Just to be someone's daughter would be nice.

Her phone ringing shook her out of her thoughts. It was Rainbow Dash calling to ask if she would be at Applejack's the next day, to help with the harvest. Sunset pretended she didn't read it. She just wanted to go to sleep and clear her head. Her life at school was amazing now, and she was goo d at some many things, but still. She needed some time to herself.

She laid her head back on her pillow, and took in her empty house. She had s many friends now, and yet, she still felt like she didn't deserve it, the cold loneliness still burning inside of her. Not for friends, but for family.

Shaking that off, Sunset rolled over to go to sleep. She had friends now. And she was paying for her mistake.

Everything was fine, even if it felt like it wasn't.

But when she did go to sleep, her book, sitting on a shelf nearby, started to glow and quiver. It shook, and released a blast of magic, that didn't wake Sunset. It floated over the city, attacking others, but not with hate.

With Variety.

"Darling, are you quite sure your alright?" Sunset, in her sleepy sate, almost thought the question was aimed at her. But, it turned out, it was addressed to Applejack.

"I guess so." The honest country girl smoothed her hair back. "I guess it was all that apple-bucking."

"I still can't believe the way you pick apples!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed. "It's like, hit the tree, hit the tree, there has to be some better way of doing it! You're gonna hurt yourself."

"Or get yourself dirty." Rarity put in, opening her compact and spreading some lipstick on. Sunset jolted back to the waking world. "Oh no! The apples! I'm so sorry I forgot!"

"No worries." Applejack replied with a nonchalant air. "We figured you wouldn't come, after what happened last time."

"Right." Sunset blushed. Last week, when she had showed up to pick apples, she was somewhat out of it, and ended up almost breaking her skull when she didn't realize some hard, crabapples had fallen from her tree.

"You're still a little off though." Applejack observed. "Something going on?"

"No, it's nothing." How could she explain to them these feelings when she could hardly explain it to herself?

"You know how I feel about lying." Applejack told her firmly. Rainbow Dash backed her up. "Yeah. We're your friends, and we want to help."

Sunset sighed. "I guess I've been having trouble sleeping lately." That wasn't a lie at least. She was having sleeping troubles.
