"This is a new brew I've been trying," Iroh said, pouring me a cup of tea. "It has hibiscus petals infused with calming lemon tea. Drink. It'll make you feel better." I took the warm cup, which had steam that curled and heated my nose. The tea was a bright red, like a magic potion. It smelled nice. I took a sip, and instantly fell in love.
"Do you like it?" Iroh asked nervously. "I hope you like it. I hope I put enough sugar in it. Is two spoonfuls enough?"
I nodded eagerly.
"I love it! Thank you so much; it's the best tea I've ever had!"
"Well at least someone on this ship appreciates my tea!" Iroh chuckled, pouring me some more tea. "There you go----Kai Lin, is it? Such a lovely name!" I started blushing and tried not to fangirl as I drank my tea.
"Thank you," I said shyly, and continued drinking my tea. Then the door knocked.
"Uncle?" Zuko's voice came muffled out from the door.
"Don't let him in!" I whispered.
The door opened, and Zuko set his hawk-like gaze on me.
"Too late!" Iroh muttered. Zuko growled.
"What—are—you—DOING HERE?" Zuko yelled at me, smoke coming out of his nose like an angry bull.
"We are having tea, Prince Zuko," Iroh said calmly. "Would you care to join us?"
"I DON'T NEED ANY TEA!" he shouted, knocking down the tea tray and making a crash. Then he grabbed my collar. Our faces were inches apart.
"And I especially don't. Need. You."
"You seriously need a breath mint!" I told Zuko. Zuko's eyes flashed like the fire that burned him.
"What did you say?" he said in a deadly whisper. Iroh shook his head behind me, signifying that I should not get him angry. But I ignored him.
"I said you seriously need a breath mint!" I shouted. Iroh facepalmed.
"WHY YOU LITTLE——" Zuko raised his fist to punch me, but Iroh intervened just in time.
"NO, PRINCE ZUKO!" Iroh said, raising his voice. "WHATEVER YOU DO TO MY LITTLE SWEET TEA I WILL DO TO YOU TENFOLD! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?"
Zuko scoffed.
"You've named her? Uncle, you're not going to keep her! It's my order!"
I cleared my throat in order to get the phlegm out of my mouth.
"Last time I checked, this man was supposed to be the Fire Lord," I said, gesturing toward Iroh. "So you should be following his orders, pretty boy!"
Zuko stepped back.
"Would you like some ice with that?" Iroh said, nudging me with his elbow. "Because you just got burned!"
"OOOOOOOOOOOH!" I shouted.
Iroh and I high-fived.
"Of course I'm coming, Prince Zuko," Iroh bowed respectfully.
"You, however, are not invited!" he said to me.
"She is too invited," Iroh said calmly.
"No she's not!"
"Yes she is," Iroh said calmly. "Now get out of this room before I change my mind about harming my nephew for her sake. Haven't you caused enough trouble already?"
Zuko only turned beet red and stormed out the door and slammed it closed.
That was awesome.
After that there was an awkward silence.
"So....what are we gonna do about dinner?" I asked awkwardly.
"Yes, that is a problem..." Iroh said, looking at my clothes. His face lit up.
"I think I may have an idea....."
"So what's this all about Iroh?" Fa Diu, one of the crew ladies asked. All these old women and girls were looking at me, so I was hiding behind Iroh. If there's anything I hate more, it's a small room full of old ladies.
"I have come to ask a favor of you," Iroh said calmly. "I have come to request a makeover!"
At this all the women and girls started laughing so hard that tears started to roll down their cheeks.
"Iroh—" gasped Fa Diu between laughs. "We don't do makeovers for men!"
"I don't even wanna think about that!" one of the old women remarked, pointing at Iroh.
"Oh, Fa Diu, you are a funny one!" Iroh laughed. "The makeover isn't for me, it's for her!"
"Uh.....hi." I said, waving awkwardly. "I'm Kai Lin."
"The poor thing snuck onto the ship while we were out fighting the Avatar. I don't know how she got here or where she came from, but for now she's staying with me." the old man said decidedly.
"That man is crazy!" I heard one old woman whisper to another.
"Does Prince Zuko know about this?" Fa Diu asked suspiciously.
"Not at all."
"Oh."
"Which is why my little sweet tea needs to get ready for dinner. The clothes that she's wearing....aren't very suitable."
Iroh glanced at my shorts and t-shirt. They were a bit damp from me being underwater, but Iroh had covered me up with his cloak. I had protested against him going without his cloak, but he insisted and said that he didn't want his little sweet tea catching a cold. Which was absolutely adorable.
"You don't look like you're from here," Fa Diu said, glancing disgustingly at my clothes. "Where ya from, kid?"
"Uh...." I said nervously, not knowing what to say. "I don't know....."
The women gasped.
"She doesn't know!"
"I am sure she lost her memory during the fall," Iroh said sheepishly.
"The fall?" the old women asked simultaneously.
"She fell from the sky." Iroh said this as though this was normal.
