* A/N- Malachi pronounced MAL-uh-ky, with the ky sounding like tie but with a k

"I don't get it, I thought this was supposed to help me with my exams." Looking at him, I tilt my head to the side.

He chuckles, "You aren't doing it right. You gotta really jam out to the music to get the info in your brain, yanno?" Looking over at me, he starts to shred the air-guitar like he was on a stage before thousands of people.

I throw my head in my hands as an exasperated sigh escapes my lips. "This is useless, I don't care how many studies there are about this. Music will not help me memorize the different parts of the skeletal system. Your 'Metallica Method' doesn't work on me."

A loud gasp draws my attention, causing me to whip my head up.  Of course, it's my brother,  skipping down the stairs. "How dare you! I'll have you know Malachi*'s Metallica Method is tried, tested and true! How did you think I passed anything in high school, Lil?"

My brother, Typhon, or Ty as everyone calls him, is a pain in my ass. I swear he has made it his life agenda to inform me of how superior he is. Out of the two of us, he got the better genes. He got mom's beautiful emerald eyes, sandy hair color, and slim nose. Paired with dad's chiseled face shape, voluminous hair texture, tan complexion and height, he's a model waiting to happen. I, on the other hand, got my mother's round face, pin straight hair, ghostly skin-tone  and 5'3" stature. My nose, which is a mirror of my father's, can only be described as a rectangle. Adorn that with auburn hair and more-brown-than-green hazel eyes, and you get me.  I wouldn't say I'm ugly, but I'm not the worlds definition of beauty either.

My eyes involuntarily roll. Ty walks over to Malachi and settles in the chair next to him. Studying for this exam is about to get significantly more difficult..

"Don't worry Lilith, if Metallica doesn't work for you, maybe some other band does? Who knows, there is probably a billion other ways to remember stuff. Hey! Have you tried that gum method-thingy?" Malachi questions, leaning onto the kitchen island. His eyes meet mine, and I quickly turn around and walk to the fridge, avoiding his gaze. His eyes bore holes into my back, awaiting my answer.

Let me paint the picture for you. Malachi Sommers, my brother's best friend since middle school, and my crush for as long as I remember. His dreamy cobalt eyes and dark chocolate hair have haunted my dreams, causing me to long for someone I can never have. Not because he's my brothers friend, that I don't give two shits about, but because he will only ever see me as a little sister. Based on his past girlfriends, I don't fall anywhere close to the realm of his type. That won't stop my mind from running on overdrive around him, unfortunately.

I grab a yogurt from the fridge, and turn on my heels to the counter. Grabbing a spoon, I announce "It's hopeless" and put the spoon in my mouth while I pick up my books. Before any retaliations can by made, I sulk to the stairs. Overhearing my bother say "Finally we can do stuff now" convinced me I was making the right decision, ascending the stairs one at a time.
