It seemed that with every day that passed, your best friend became more and more distant from you. Whispers would rise from groups of small students claiming that the prince of Slytherin hated you, that you were worthless, that he hated to be around you.

You and Draco had been inseparable ever since your first year at Hogwarts together, so since Draco had recently been avoiding you, you couldn't help but start to think the rumors that were being spread around held some truth.

Your once partner in potions class worked with anyone else but you now. The sweet white-blonde-haired boy you talked to in your room every day never came around. The one person you sat with when eating was never anywhere to be found. And your best friend was gone.

You would occasionally see the back of his head in the hallway, but every time you called out or ran around the corner to talk to him, he would vanish. It was hurting your heart, the way he was acting lately. Did you say something to make him hate you? What was worse was that you couldn't ask him what you did because you never could.

"What am I supposed to do?" you asked one evening as you were sitting with your other friends, Harry, Ron, and Hermione. You had been stabbing at your food for the past twenty minutes thinking about Draco while you slowly spilled out your problems one by one.

"I mean, he's been ignoring me for three weeks now! It's like I don't exist anymore. He doesn't want anything to do about me, and people are starting to spread rumors as to why he's avoiding me." you sigh and rest your cheek in the palm of your hand.

Harry rubbed your back soothingly while Hermione was lost in thought.

"It's not your fault, (Y/N)," Harry said softly. "I know you and Draco are really good friends, but sometimes he can just be so stuck up he doesn't see how his actions are affecting others. In this case, you."

"That's not necessarily the case, Harry," Hermione interjected. "I doubt Draco would do something like that to someone he really cares about." At her words, you couldn't help but scoff and shake your head. Her gaze softens. "You don't really think he hates you, do you?"

"I don't know..." you say, shoving your plate of abused salad away from you. Ron looked at the roll sitting on your plate and quickly snatched it up.

Hermione smacked his shoulder roughly.  "He won't let me talk to him at all, so it's not like I can just walk up to him and be all like 'hey Draco, noticed you've been ignoring my very existence, why is that?'" The harsh sarcasm in your voice indicated that you were deeply hurt by what Draco was doing to you, and your friends all knew that.

"He's just being an arse," Ron said through a mouthful of stolen dinner roll. "You didn't do anything, really. It's just Malfoy being... well, Malfoy-"

"But he's never been this way to her before, Ron," Harry argued. "He has to be doing this for a reason."

You opened your mouth to mutter something, but Hermione saw and stopped you from saying anything.

"No, you're not the reason." She concludes. You shrug your shoulders glumly.

"How do I know I'm not? Everyone thinks it's my fault-"
