MORDRED PLAYED WITH HIS LOVER'S raven hair between his fingers. It was smooth and silky and it smelled like the outdoors. He softly pecked a kiss on Merlin's jaw and then another on his forehead. He saw the heat rush to his cheeks and he smiled in content. Merlin was someone he never thought he'd have, as a friend or as a lover. Now the raven-haired man was in his arms and he could call him his.
He pushed back Merlin's bangs with his thumb and gave him another kiss. "Have you ever fancied another man before?" He asked, curiosity getting the best of him.
Merlin turned to face him and snuggled into his chest. "Why?"
"I'm just curious, that's all."
Merlin shook his head. "Hmm, not really."
Mordred's anxiety suddenly spiked in defensiveness. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
"My childhood friend and I... we were really close. He and my mother were the only ones to truly look at me like I was normal. But I never thought of him in that way..." The older man continued, burying his face into his chest.
"Then why'd you say not really?" Mordred really had to stop being so jealous at the slightest suggestion that Merlin had loved someone else. But he couldn't help it.
"I mean, I loved him. And we did everything together. We always said that when we were older, we'd move away from Ealdor into a huge house with pigs and horses and a whole bunch of land. We would joke that we'd get married one day. I guess I always just thought we actually would," a slight frown seemed to appear on the man's lips.
Mordred smiled at him. "How come you aren't friends anymore?" He felt Merlin freeze suddenly and his skin turned a slightly paler colour.
"He was killed. A long time ago," he said in a small voice. Mordred instantly felt bad for bringing it up. He didn't like seeing Merlin hurt like this. He pulled him a little closer.
"I'm sorry, sweetie," Mordred frowned and rubbed small circles into his back lovingly. The tips of Merlin's ears turned red at the name, causing him to kiss each of them.
"It's alright. Like I said, it was long ago." He looked up at Mordred, who he was on top of with both their stomachs facing up, and kissed him lightly under the chin. Mordred smiled. God, he was so adorable. But he didn't say this out loud, instead, he responded with another kiss and turned Merlin around so he was facing the right way. He grabbed his waist, pulling him on top and closer to his lips.
Mordred held him close like he was his entire world. Which, in his eyes, of course, he was. He stared at those light blue eyes in admiration. When they first met again before he'd striked Morgana, he knew right away that Merlin was special. There were only faint memories of him from long ago. But he had remembered those eyes; so kind and vivid in colour.
Merlin had been surprised to find Mordred standing behind him that day. He had turned around, almost like he recognized his voice, which was difficult because it had deepened since the last time they talked. Merlin had stared at him in such a peculiar way. He was shocked, maybe a little scared, but there was another look in his eyes... a sort of submission or compliance.
His eyes had fluttered like he was captivated, then he looked away as if he was too weak to hold gazes with the knight. To say he didn't find it attractive would be a lie. The Great Emrys, panting beneath him with a desire, a need. And that's how it had been; Mordred over him, pleasing him, satisfying him. In turn, Merlin beneath him, drawing his nails into his skin, completely out of breath. Of course, they had done nothing but kiss, which was perfect, but Mordred couldn't help but let his mind wander.
