August 6, 1963
The summer before senior year was a hot one. The humid, thick, muggy air, blanketed the entire city. I'm so excited to be in my last year of high school. The school I go to has been newly integrated and racial tensions have been exceptionally high. My future scares me. My parents want me to go to college and become a teacher or a secretary, something normal. But I want to be an artist, I've always spent my spare time painting and drawing, my surroundings, my family and even myself. But most of all I want to be excepted in the world I live in. The people who look like myself have been suffering for centuries because of bigotry and racism. I yearn to be loved by everyone, just as I love them.
