Part 1: Let the Games Begin

My favourite childhood memory has to have been when I stole my first pair of shoes.

My name is Kayla, I'm 18 year old girl, I have a super cute boyfriend named Matthew. He is sweet and loves me so much, and I love him even more. Not to mention that he is super cute.(didn't I already mention that?) But my life changed for the better and for the worst. You will just have to read and see how it happened.

You see, it was coming close to my grade 8 grad. I needed a new pair of high heels to wear and my mom was being stubborn. She was saying that I should wear my old pair of heels. I would have obeyed my mother, but those shoes would have to be the ugliest pair that I have ever seen. They were given to me by my aunt for my twelfth birthday. If you looked at them, you would have thought that someone took 7 different shoes, took them apart, then sewed them back together into one pair of rather disgusting shoes. Don't tell anyone, but I think that my aunt ran over them with her car too. Sadly, I didn't have enough money to pay for a new pair.

The next day at school, a girl came up to me and told me that there was a way to get a new pair of shoes for the grad. So I listened to her. She told me that the only way to get those shoes, was to steal them from the store. My mom came to my mind right away. She told me when I was a little girl, not to steal, and that stealing isn’t a good thing to do, especially when you are older and you get caught. “You can get into a lot of trouble.” Is what she said all those years ago, but what does she know about shoes. She isn’t in my situation right now. She doesn’t have a graduation coming up. She’s from the ‘60’s, when they didn’t care about what you wore, because they had no fashion taste at that time. Though my mom seems to think that she is still in the '60's.

I know that stealing those shoes is one option. I asked the girl that came up to me the other day, I found out that her name was Melody, why I couldn’t just earn enough money to buy the shoes by getting a job? But she said that only a loser would buy their own shoes when their parents won’t buy them a new pair. I suppose that she’s right, but I don’t understand how that would make someone a loser.

I guess that she is either a rich, snobby girl that gets whatever she wants, whenever she wants it, when she wants it, or she is the kind of girl that is going to get me into a lot of trouble. If the first, then I better be careful with what I say and do. If the second, then I definitely need to stay in the shadows when she comes around.

But my plan failed a few days later. Melody stopped me as I was going to my math class. It was like I was in a movie, the bad guy grabs the good guy, as he or she is walking down a street,a hallway in my case, and pulls them into an alley of some sort. Except for the fact that I was pulled to a different class completely. Mr Sanderson is going to flip at me if I'm late for class. But he is usually in a good mood twenty-four seven if I'm correct. So he may be fine if I come up with a good excuse, when I finally arrive to class that is. But Melody seems pretty set on not letting me go until she knows if I'm going to shoplift or not.

"So Kayla, what are you going to do?" I just knew that she was going to ask. She even had that smug look on her face with that little smirk to top it off. She was like all of my nightmares coming true.

"I'm not going to steal those shoes," she was so insolent, "that would just break what my mom worked so hard to pound into my head."

No one even knows this except for my best friend Liama.

My mom was a Lieutenant General in the Vietnam war in 1963. She was there until the war ended in 1975.

She is a very harsh woman. When I don't do things right, she would beat me as if I were a prisoner being interrogated with a fist. She has broken many of my bones, like my ribs, my legs, my arms, my nose, and I'm not sure what else. But I'm scared whenever I am at home, at school and when I am walking to and from school. She has left an imprint on me that will never go away.

Then I suddenly remembered that I was with Melody in an unknown classroom, I later on found out that it was one of the science laboratories, I should have known, with all of the chemicals and beakers around. Melody was staring me down, as if I were a piece of gum that have just gotten stuck on her favourite, not to mention expensive, shoes that she got from her daddy as a little gift for her for no reason.

I have to run.

That is all I could think of a that moment.

I have to run! I have to run! I! HAVE! TO! RUN!

Then I bolted out of that classroom as fast as I could. No one was going to stop me form getting to my math class. Not to mention that it is actually my favourite subject, and Melody is totally ruining my day.

But if Melody thinks that she can get me to shoplift, then I will make a bet. If she gets me to steal those shoes, then I will punch my mother in the nose and break it, then take the backfire. If she doesn't get me to steal the shoes, then she has to take me on a shopping spree for as much money and time as I want.

Let the games begin! ;P
