Third pov
The whole underworld had heard about the Verones by the time Mateo got the call from his buisness partner and friend.
From what he'd heard Carter Verone had been caught in an explosion and was (according to lots of whispers) either dead or dying. Not that Mateo particularly believes it.
If Carter Verone was dead then Phoenix would be raising hell already. The woman has fire in her veins and the means to back up whatever threat she makes.
There was also the rumor that Phoenix herself had been seen carted off by an ambulance picking her up at the seen of a house in shambles.
Now that one was a bit harder to wave off.
While he hadn't seen her for several years, he doubted she'd changed much from the brutal spitfire she'd been as a teenager.
Her being up and walking again after something like that isn't out of character.
"Got any news for me, Mateo?" Danny was sitting at the table in the warehouse they were currently in.
"Phoenix is on her way. She needs some place to lay low for a little while."
Danny nodded. "Alright, then what do you say we give her a warm welcome?"
Mateo chuckled. "You mean tea and cake?"
"Why not? She's bound to be hungry." Danny shrugged, an amused look on his face.

Phoenix directed Diego through the warehouses until they came to a really big one with a few cars outside of it.
There was of course a few guards as well.
She could see that the two guys that pulled her out of trouble were really uneasy.
"Well, here it is. It's best if you drop me off here."
Diego nodded, not able to hide his shoulders dropping in relief. "You'll be fine from here?"
Phoenix smiled a bit and shrugged. "Hopefully. Thank you guys for the help."
"It's no problem. You're important to a lot of people, we figured we'd help when we could." Julian said.
Phoenix said goodbye before exiting the car and walking towards the warehouse.
The big guy that had been standing closest to the door opened it for her and let her in.
"Phoenix Verone! You look a bit tired darling." Danny Valoques was standing beside Mateo.
"That's because i am." She rolled her eyes at him.
"I heard about the bomb that took your husband, you have my condolences."
Phoenix snorted. "Do you really think i would be standing here if he was dead?"
Mateo shook his head. "You'd be burning the world to the ground until you found those responsible."
"Like she'd kill anyone." Danny snorted and turned to lead them to where they could talk comfortably.
Mateo was the only one that noticed the uneasy flinch coming from Phoenix.
Time skip
"I'm guessing you're keeping some things to yourself. Not that i blame you, you rarely like putting all your cards on the table." When she opened her mouth Danny continued. "Everyone that knows you knows that."
Phoenix settled down at that.
"In any case, i don't like the sound of someone trying to kill you. It's bad for buisness."
The redhead snorted. "So?"
Danny leaned back into his chair. "So, I'll give you access to my resources until you no longer need them. But right now, you're going to shower. Because quite frankly, you smell."
Vote and comment, it keeps me motivated :)
