The King with Cardinal Eyes

Surprise?

You stride around your room and jump front-first onto your bed.

"AHHH" you smack yourself on the head "how could you be so stupid y/n"

you begin to take off your dress but you had a sudden idea.. why not go to visit the prince at his residence and apologise? I mean.. what could go wrong?

you open your door slightly but you see some court-ladies outside your room. "Excuse me?" You tap one of the ladies on the shoulder.
"Yes miss?" The lady replied
"I left something outside, could I get it?" You smiled innocently.

The court lady shook her head "I'm afraid not miss... the king has ordered to let nobody out of their rooms at night, so I can get it for you if your lik-"

You grabbed the ladies hand "I need some fresh air" you pouted cutely "cover for me just this once! Please?"

The court lady sighed "fine. But make it quick"
You bowed politely and hurried outside.

"ahhhh" you inhaled the crisp cold air of the coming winter. "I better hurry"

You turned the corner and gasped. What seemed like thousands of guards stood outside the prince's residence. Luckily, you had seen a side door on your palace tour this morning. You crouched down and ran to the side door, running inside the princes room. You looked around but the room was empty. Where was everyone? Where was the prince?

Inquisitively, you looked around the princes room. Golden ornaments and robes covered in silver slivers were dotted. You sat at the princes desk and looked inside the book that was placed delicately on top. You began to open it but the sound of footsteps filled the corridor. Panicked, you hid behind one of the many bookshelves placed around the room.

You peered from between the books and saw the prince enter. He sat down on his chair and began to take of his robe. You gasped and immediately covered your mouth as the prince looked in your direction and began to walk towards you. You held your breath and closed your eyes tightly, praying you wouldn't get caught. He got so close that you could hear him breathing, but suddenly the door opened and the prince span around.
The eunuch, whom you had met many times today, walked in. "Your majesty... just to inform you, security of your residence will be tightened due to the event which will take place tomorrow at noon"

The prince stared blankly at the eunuch

"Don't tell me you've forgotten what's happening tomorrow" he sounded shocked

The prince turned around and walked back to his chair with his hands behind his back.
"How could I forget Yi-Jin?" He sat down "my father will step down from the throne and my little brother will take the throne"

The eunuch looked scared "uh.. yes, well. I just thought I should remind you, your majesty" he paused and began to close the door "good night then."

With that, the door closed and the Prince lay down, ready to fall asleep
