Hawks felt comfortable and warm. It was nice. Normally he it wasn't this nice to sleep, he hadn't felt like this since Touya. He was woken suddenly by a squeal. Hawks found himself face to face with a blonde girl, still being held in Dabi's arms like he had been when he fell asleep.
"Aww he's so cute! You didn't tell me he was this adorable! Hi sweetie." Toga cooed, "Aren't you just the cutest little thing."
Hawks gripped Dabi's shirt and hid his face in the fabric, "D-Dabi!"
Dabi ran his fingers through Hawks' hair, soothing him a little, "Toga." The man kept his voice quiet but the girl got the picture.
"Sorry." Toga offered an apologetic smile, then noticing a few uneven, choppy looking feathers in Hawks' wings, "What happened to his wings?!"
Dabi wished he'd been there to prevent it. He hadn't known of what the commission had done until that night. It wasn't until Hawks had fallen asleep earlier in the night that Dabi was able to find out what had happened to the little.
Shigaraki scoffed, "The damn commission clipped them as some kind of punishment." As much as he hated to admit it he wanted to defend the hero after everything Dabi had told him, "And they call us the villains."
Hawks looked down, "Was bad..." He muttered.
"No. You weren't bad, you didn't do anything wrong." Dabi replied, "Don't ever think that you're bad for being little. Those sick bastards had no right to do that to you."
Toga frowned, "Oh, honey. I'm so sorry baby. Can I help? Do you want some cookies? I can make some cookies." She offered, reaching out to hold the little, "You could help make them if you want."
Dabi shielded the boy from Toga's grasp, "You're overwhelming him."
"Hawks can I pull those feathers out for you? It will help them feel better, once they're gone new ones can come in."
Hawks' breathing hitched he clung to Dabi a little tighter. He couldn't let go, his body wouldn't let him. He wasn't supposed to be weak. He wasn't supposed to say no. Hawks flinched a little when a gentle hand began gently rubbing up and down his back.
"You don't have to say yes Birdie. It's your choice. If you don't want to do it then we won't do it." Dabi added.
Hawks looked shocked. He got to chose? The little looked back at Kurogiri then to Dabi. He didn't want his wings to hurt anymore, but what if they were lying? Dabi wouldn't let anyone hurt him though. But if Dabi isn't there to protect him...
Kurogiri seemed to catch on rather quickly, "Dabi can come along if you'd like."
Hawks nodded, "Wan' owies gone."
Dabi would use his quirt to warm Hawks' wings just enough to loosen the feathers a little and reduce the pain as much as he could. Hawks was too tense the entire time, making the process more painful than necessary. Both caregivers tried their best to keep him calm and hopefully get him to relax his wings.
Kurogiri carefully pulled out another feather and Hawks let out a pained cry. He gripped the man in front of him for dear life. Dabi offered comforting touches. If the process was hurting and scaring the boy that much they didn't have to continue it. If Hawks wanted to stop then that was all there was to it, they were going to stop.
"Shh, it's okay. We can stop if you want to. Do you want to stop?" Dabi asked, feeling the little shake his head against his chest, "Okay."
Kurogiri rubbed Hawks' back, "You're being so brave, Hawks. I'm very proud of you."
"I'm proud of you too kid." Dabi assured him, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of his head.
"And me!" Toga chimed in.
"Toga." Dabi scolded.
"Sorry." Toga apologized, "I brought cookies!"
Hawks peaked out from Dabi's chest, "Cookie?"
"Aww! He's just so cute my heart can't take it!" Toga squealed, and held out the cookies.
"Only take one Hawks." Dabi said.
"Who put you in charge of the cookies?" Toga replied, insisting that Hawks needed more than just one cookie, "He needs cookies."
Dabi sighed, "He needs sleep. Sugar isn't going to help him with that."
Hawks didn't complain about only getting one cookie. He still got to have a cookie, that was all he really cared about. The cookie ended up serving as a good distraction to get him through Kurogiri removing the last of the clipped feathers. By the time the cookie was completely eaten and all of the damaged feathers were gone, Hawks was barely keeping his eyes open.
"I think it's someone's bedtime." Toga cooed.
"Toga's right." Dabi chuckled a bit when he saw the grumpy expression on Hawks' face, "Calm down angry bird. You're tired. It's been a long day for you."
Hawks whined but allowed Dabi to carry him into a different room. It was apparent that it was Dabi's room, which somehow comforted Hawks. He whined again when he was set down, taken away from the warmth of Dabi's body. The caregiver was quick to return and Hawks' expression dropped even further, he was holding a t-shirt and a pull-up.
"No! No no no! Don't need it." Hawks insisted.
Dabi wasn't pleased with that answer, "What if you have an accident?"
"I... I won't. Not gonna have a accident." Hawks mumbled.
"Are you sure about that baby? You seemed to have to wash your sheets an awful lot." Dabi replied, he and Hawks both knew that it was a necessary precaution, "It's not a big deal if you have accidents, you're just a baby, it happens sometimes."
"Don't! No accidents! Not baby! I'm a good boy!" Hawks frantically shook his head, tears pouring down his cheeks.
"You are a good boy." Dabi gently runs his fingers through his hair, "Alright, how about this? If you're still dry tomorrow then we won't do pull-ups anymore, but if you're wet tomorrow you'll wear them without arguing with me. Got it?"
"Mhm." Hawks nodded, still pouting.
"Good boy." Dabi praised, Hawks beamed at those words, "Now we need to get ready for bed. It's way past your bedtime."
Dabi changed a still reluctant Hawks into a pull-up and a pajama shirt large enough to fit over his closed wings. When he set the little boy onto the bed and tried to tuck him in Hawks began crying again.
"Need Boba!" Hawks sobbed, "Present from Bunny! I need her!"
Dabi realized that Boba must have been the penguin Rumi had bought Hawks while he was sick. Dabi hadn't grabbed anything from Hawks' apartment before bringing him to the league and defiantly didn't have the time to do so.
"I don't have time to get her tonight. How about I sleep with you tonight instead?" Dabi offered.
Hawks nodded in agreement, his thumb now tucked into his mouth. Dabi sighed and grabbed a pacifier from a small box of little items he'd gotten for Hawks. He carefully removed Hawks' thumb and replaced it with a pacifier before climbing into bed with the boy.
