My head lay upon the wet cold grass when I had finally come too. My clothes had been singed from the fire the other day and my hair was all long and tangled. I looked round, nothing just the forest on all sides; I was in one of the clearings. My feet were tired but persistent as I got up and began to explore the clearing. Cinders of ash lay by a pile of wood surrounded my a circle of rocks and by it lay a iron stick. Someone had been here with me not long ago as the ash was fresh and the smell of burning wood was still strong. I continued to look round for traces of them... there were non, they must have left. I threw myself back on to grass and stared at the sky, the stars were clear and bright, shining like a thousand diamonds shimmering brilliantly. I heard the crack of a twig and look found sharply to where it had come from, a silhouette stood solid oh front of the tree... it was Rhydian.
"Good it's just you," he sighed rubbing his forehead "nice to see you finally awake how are you feeling?" Even though he talked with great kindness and care he still kept a good distance from me. I nodded my head my long matted hair fell over my sapphire blue eyes. "Not much of a talker are we?" He threw a bag nearer the fire and began to attempt to light it while still keeping his distance from me.
" Why do you keep such a distance between us?" I thought but as always I spoke my thoughts and Rhydian just so happened to hear me. His face went red and he continued working. " Your burden, that monster inside you I can see, feel him growing stronger... you do not understand." he collapsed to the floor as the fire began to grow until it was decent.
"I think I could understand I know how dangerous it can be... but, that's why I ran away I couldn't bare to see yet more people suffer." my sentence trailed of my voice going quieter as I spoke.
" What happened?" he said sitting next to me? Who suffered..?"
"I'd rather not talk about it but seeing as I really shouldn't mourn about what has been ok. It all started when I was as usual helping out on the farm, my family had got a new trainee about my age in and she worked so hard, all day and all night my parents would boast about how brilliant she was. Not forgetting though I had the night walker with me all the time distracting me trying to scare me so on anyway my parents thought that she was so splendid that they'd give her my room and I got her small room. Don't worry it wasn't always about my parents loving her, after all she always sucked up to them always lovely and sweet until she was alone with me she used go push me over in the mud, stab my hand with a hoe and god did it hurt I still have a scar from one of the time she did it," I rolled up my sleeve and showed him the scar going right across my arm. His face was full of anger and sympathy at the same time, " well one day I got scared that she would kill me, I didn't understand about Thorn I mean it that well I was 17 and now it's almost my 18th birthday I feel aweful about what happened but I began to play a rhythm on my leg and go 5 4 3 2 and when I got down to one she began to suffocate, I didn't know what to do but when my parents found out she was dead there was a death penalty put up so the girl who killed her would be murdered."
"That's horrid why would someone do that!" He hissed his eyes turning into narrow slits.
"Anyway I ran off that night with only a small backpack. I wasn't sure where I'd go but I knew the thing inside me was dangerous to anyone, if she could die just like that how could I prevent something so simple happening again, it could be anything that dies next time, anything to make me scared get emotional over it because after all fear what it feeds on." I didn't realise but Rhydian was now going over my scar while holding my hand. He looked up his face sad and depressed.
"That reminds me of why I left, you see people think this is weird but I can see spirits um omens things ordinary people can't see. Everything was fine until I saw the king ride through he had so many dark omens around him it was incredible how crewel and cold hearted he was. He said he was going round these parts collecting money like they did in the medieval era well he wanted £120 from each adult and since I had turned 18 a month before I had to come up with the money myself. Well I could barley afford food being in county 14 Tis the poorest county around its where all the apprentices and shoemakers went. Getting back on track I got mad and so did his dark omens they attacked him, not until death nor did I get thrown into prison apparently I was a danger so I was banished. I ran far away until I reached no mans land, where I could be free from any county."
he looked down at his thumbs as he spoke.
"So your an outcast now?" I asked awkwardly.
"Yes I am an outcast, and a weirdo too who no one trusts."
"Dawn!" I blurted out, he looked At me like I was a psychopathic freak! "My real names Dawn I'm just afraid of hurting someone else." Rhydian nodded his head understandingly and we both lay down go sleep till morning.-=END OF CHAPTER=-
