I was sitting Indian style on my bed in front of my laptop as I typed the next response,
"216-664-3946"
I had just gotten back from a long day of school, and after walking a grueling two miles home, I went straight up stairs to my bedroom. I wasn't surprised to see no one home, my brother being the typical thirteen year old teenager it wasn't surprising to not see him home, probably hanging out with his "cool" friends or whatever.
My mother on the other hand I was annoyed to not be surprised she wasn't here, she barely was home now and like a stereotypical parent she uses work as a excuse, but I know the hours she works and the hours she doesn't. I was very aware of her going out on "dates" with random men, and if I were to put a label on me and my mother's relationship I'd say bad. Plain and simple. But I decided to leave it at that after I realized my mother wasn't going to quit seeing strange men, and I knew it was because of my father's death.
I guess people grieve differently, I thought watching my laptop screen intently as I waited for the next response.
"I'm going to call... "
My heart jumped, and I froze for a moment at the thought of him actually calling me, then stopped a minute at the thought of me not knowing what to say. I typed the next response.
" U are???"
"Yes, I hope that's not an issue."
I paused again; in the next five minutes I'm going to be on the phone with a absolute stranger and be absolutely speechless. I brought my hand up to smack at my forehead, why did I just give my number to a unknown stranger on the Internet? Was I that naive?
When I came back from school and made it to my bedroom I decided that I wasn't quite sleepy, but rather bored almost to a point I could've died. There was nothing on TV, my friends were probably somewhere hanging in the wrong crowd, and I didn't have any sports to do, so I called for desperate measures; talk to random strangers on the Internet.
After about a half hour of scrolling through names that I thought my brain would eventually find interesting and found absolutely nothing, and chat box popped up on the screen saying "Unknown wants to speak to you!"
And because I was a stubborn, curious, and BORED adrenaline junky I clicked accept.
"Hello there."
Unknown responded first and I slowly lifted my hands up to the keyboard of my laptop as I unenthusiasticly typed my response, knowing this'll probably be one of those conversation that didn't last long.
"Hey, "
And that's how a rather interesting conversation started to my surprised, we had started off with simple things like what was my name, if I had any hobbies, and if I was a only child. Then he asked if I had a boyfriend, giving away his gender,
" No, having one will only slow me down"
"Do you want one?"
And this is how most conversations with me ends, some guy off the Internet thinks I'm naive and desperate enough to have a guy to call my boyfriend that they ask and think I'm going to simply say yes. Which I wasn't, because chances are he was probably looking for a booty call, and even if we were to connect or whatever I never was one for long distance relationships. I typed my next response slowly,
"Umm, no."
"Interesting..."
I leaned back on the pillows of my bed, knowing this will probably be the end of our conversation, I knew how this game went with men on the Internet; since I'm not looking for a boyfriend or a fuckbuddy they'll go to the next needy woman. Until another message popped up,
