Greenery stirred, the light from the window blinding her as she turned around, staring at the opposite side, the blanket pulled up to her chin ready to fall back to sleep but something had woke her up and it came again-the doorbell. She sighed, as it came again with no hope of the other person giving up. She sat up in the new queen sized bed which she had lay in for hours on hours with the sun rising up yet sleep had not come until later in the morning. Her mind had been everywhere, fear gripping her thinking of what if the killer had followed them. It had been a rough couple of hours yet she had finally drifted off to sleep at some point.
Her feet pat the cold hardwood floor as she walked to the door, arms hugging her body as she walked out. The house was quiet, passing Sebastian's door wondering if he was awake and if so what was he doing? She wondered if he had been able to sleep or if he had stayed up just like she had. She took the stairs, the bell coming again with her approaching the door. She stood on her toes, looking through the peep hole to see who stood at the other end of the door. Three heads were visible, a woman with a man and a teen girl. She sighed, taking a deep breath and finally realising that she was wearing a pair of silky sleeping black shorts and a black top with spaghetti straps. Taking a deep breath she unlocked the door, opening it wide to see who stood on the other side.
A woman who was probably in her late thirties or early forties stood with her husband's arm around her waist. Her husband was tall, looking to be around his early forties with a girl standing in front of them. They looked like an ordinary family with the girl looking to be Greenery's age with her perfect long blonde hair and perfect manicured hands.
"Hello, we are the Simpsons and we live across the street, wanted to say hi to our new neighbours." The women said with a bright smile, her eyes took Greenery in from head to toe failing to hide the confusion. Her daughter was also doing the same, wide smiles pasted with a casserole dish on the girl's hands. The husband smiled yet seeming bored and ready to head out.
"Hi, I am Gr...uhm, Brianna Longford." She said awkwardly never having done this and just not being able to wait for it to be over.
"Nice, where are your parents sweetie?" The woman asked having Greenery choke on her own saliva as she held onto the door. She watched as the eyes of the young girl drifted behind her and stayed there, the rest of the family looked up making her turn around to see what they were staring at. Sebastian was walking down the stairs, feeling a pair of eyes on him he looked up only to stop in his tracks. Greenery watched as confusion fell on him, sleep clouding all his senses as he rubbed his eyes, looking so cute. Greenery's eyes trailed down his body, a black t-shirt clinging to his body with a pair of briefs on. She gasped, sucking in a breath wishing so much to close her eyes yet how weird would that be? Her heart went crazy with her face turning red. Sebastian stared at them for a few seconds finally deciding it was too early for this shit so he continued walking and turned to the kitchen where he was going in the first place. Greenery could have laughed, he was not a morning person and did not talk before getting his cup of coffee. It was scary how well she knew him. She turned looking at the family with the teenage girl sure to faint any second, her mouth was wide open with her mother in the same daze, yes, Sebastian had that effect on people. Greenery cleared her throat, seeing as they snapped out of it, still staring at the place he had stood. She could hear the clutter from the kitchen, Sebastian already rummaging through the pantry for cups and coffee.
"Sorry, that is my husband Max," Greenery said as if the family was not shocked enough. She saw the eyes turn to her, taking her in again with all of them not believing them. She brought her hand and pretended to be scratching her face so they could see the ring around her finger.
"Oohh," The woman said.
"You just look so young and skinny and..."The woman trailed off, at a loss of words.
"Yeah, certain circumstances had us decide to marry, life is too short and after my long battle with cancer we just decided to do it." Greenery said, the lies just slipping out of her mouth like butter, lying had never been a problem to her, it was a gift really.
She watched as they gasped, looking up at her bald head with hands covering their mouths. They stood there not knowing what to say with sadness and pity being all she saw as they stared at her. She hated it yet she took it, her head bowing down for theatrics. She was totally killing it, it feeling so good to just step in the shoes of someone else, playing a role.
"Oohh poor child, anything you need just come over to our house across the streets. We brought you lasagne thinking of how you must be exhausted from moving to make dinner." The lady said as Greenery took a deep breath, her head moving up to look at the family with a smile spreading across her face.
"Thank you so much. We really appreciate it." She said accepting the casserole dish from the girl who was staring at her with nothing but pity.
"Anything you need." It was the man saying as they all turned, waving as she waved back, watching them walk away not being able to hold themselves as they talked to themselves about what had just happened. Greenery was sure the whole neighbourhood would be in with the news before the sun hit the horizon which was soon. She closed the door behind her, a shiver from standing in the cold for so long. Her feet carried her to the kitchen with her heart hammering. She walked seeing Sebastian sitting in one of the bar stools with a cup of coffee in hand. His eyes lifted up, meeting hers as she drew closer. She placed the dish on the counter, the delicious smell of the lasagne having her stomach grumble. They had not ate anything for the longest of time. She did not waste time, going over to grab a plate and pulling out a spoon and fork. A large small part of the lasagne was cut, placing it on her plate before sitting down, her eyes moving up to see Sebastian watching her having her blush and look away.
"Hi," He said to her as she nearly laughed, him talking meant the cup was done.
"Hi," she said back as she slipped out of her chair, grabbing another fork and coming back around, giving it to him.
"Thank you." He said as Greenery pushed the plate in the middle and they ate together. The lasagne was delicious and she was sure to make something for the Simpsons too.
"How did you sleep?" She asked hoping he had not slept well just as she had not.
"Not good." He said, a smile spreading on her face, looking up to find him staring at her with a smirk on his face.
"I see that makes you happy." He said as she laughed, looking away.
"No, I was just thinking of some joke." She defended but he was not buying it.
"Oohh, okay, let us hear it then." he said having her bite her lower lip.
"You would not get it, its not that funny." She said back.
"Try me." He replied, not backing down with his eyes holding his. Greenery found herself backed in a corner, her mind suddenly slow to come up with a joke so she was left blushing and tearing her gaze from his.
Sebastian chuckled, the smirk wide on his face having her decide to just eat and pay no mind to him. They ate, went back for round two and washed the dishes after with Sebastian wiping and packing them away. The wind picked up outside, the house quiet with it getting darker as the sun drifted off leaving darkness behind. The two went to their bedrooms, making their beds and taking their baths before making their way downstairs. They each had a laptop which they would use for school and nothing else. Greenery came down with hers, a notebook and pen in the other hand. She sat on the couch, a fleece blanket pulled over as she switched on the TV and switched on to the music channel. It was irritating her that she had to do the same work she had been doing two nights before none the less she opened her laptop, logging in the school website seeing that all her assignments were now directly sent to her, especially those that had been given through the word of mouth. They had sent a lot of notes with all the books in a soft copy along with the videos of the class sessions she had missed. The school had really went out to cater for her and she could not help but feel lucky for being in a school that could do such. She quickly downloaded everything because she could only be online for two hours at a time. Her eyes shifted up as she watched Sebastian make his way to the three seat couch.
"Hi," He said as he pulled on his own fleece which he had brought with him.
"Hi," She said back, her heart going insane, the smell of his fresh scent nearly having her go wild yet she sat there, biting on her pen.
Sebastian sat down, got comfortable and opened his own laptop. He logged in his own profile in his school's website. There were a lot of notes sent with assignments along with videos which he downloaded into the laptop.
Greenery worked on her calculus assignment again which had been due that day yet the deadline had been extended to the following day for her. She worked on it, punching her calculator it not being fun anymore as she was doing it for the second time. She wrote, her eyes moving to Sebastian now and again. The music played on the back ground, an hour turning to two then three until they totally lost time. They were both buried in work at this point, Greenery having slipped to the floor with papers all around her as she typed her biology assignment. It was crazy and long but she was set on finishing it. Sebastian himself was stretched on the couch, reading the large economics book sent to him with little making sense to him yet he read it over and over again, searching the words he did not know and tried to make sense out of it all yet it was hard. He went to the video sent by his lecturer, watching the lecture connecting dots with what he had already read. He watched the video again and again, pausing now and again to jot down key points on his note pad. When all that was done he began on his assignment yet he still could not answer half of the questions leading him frustrated. He did not know what else to do at this point, going to the net to research on other books on the same thing, downloading them and reading them. It was hard yet after three books and five hours he was finally done sure he would get above fifty yet less than eighty.
There was no time to think or even realize that he wanted to take a piss as he went on to cost accounting, something that was the same as the devil to him. There was nothing he was understanding about the damn thing. He opened the book, reading it and doing the end of chapter exercises for practise which was futile. He went on watching the video sent on that chapter then attempted the exercises again before doing the assignment itself. For him school was doing four times the work and still just getting by. He wondered what would happen if he stopped trying so hard, he was sure he would fail out, failing dismally. When his mind felt as if it would burst he would look up and take a few seconds to watch Greenery absorbed in her work herself, they were both hard workers, knowing how important school was and trying to make something of themselves.
He watched as Greenery bit the back of her pen, something she loved doing. Her hands were covered in ink from accidentally scratching herself with the pen. He was sure even she herself did not know how and when she got to the floor yet there she was quickly scrambling something down. She had brains, focus and determination and nothing could stop her from getting what she wanted. He could only dream of being as smart as she was and to be as strong as she was. Her eyes suddenly tore from the laptop, catching him in the act yet he shamelessly stared back at her. They stared at each other for the longest time, a smirk on his face with a ghost smile on hers with her face turning red by the second, He was sure she wished to have hair to hide away yet she was just bare for him to see with no curtain of hair hiding her away.
"Need help?" She asked making him laugh with a smirk on her face. How could she even help him? He was sure they did not teach cost accounting in high school.
"I would love your help if only you knew cost accounting." He said.
"I am sure I can do something about that. Send me all you have on the course," She said just wanting to show off that she could do this. She did not know why but she always wanted to show off with him, wanted him to see her because then maybe just maybe he would feel what she felt. It was crazy and childish yet it was what it was.
He hesitated, staring at her with a smirk in face before shaking his head. He knew that if there was anyone who could crack it, it would be her, he could not help but feel his heart drum leaving him confused and he went sending the book and videos to her.
"Okay," She said, quickly getting to work as he moved on to management. The semester had just took off and it was a blood bath with work. It was murder by school and he did not see himself swimming through this semester even with all the work he was putting in. He sighed, going through the slides which frustrated him as slides were just a skeleton and he needed the bones along with the meat to understand yet he went on reading anyway. Greenery was already scrambling something down and he had to pause and watch, like what the hell was she writing, she had just started reading. He laughed, sighing as his eyes trailed back to the song playing on the TV, a song by Dababy which he lovedrockstar. His hands were sore, his eyes red and watery with his head pounding and that was when he felt the pressure on his bladder, it coming hard making him quickly put everything aside and rush to the toilet which was upstairs making him curse none the less he ran there, taking a piss and coming back to nest in his couch with his eyes taking the time to see that it was past two in the morning. He could feel sleep clawing at him yet looking at Greenery she was far from sleeping, seeming more energized and determined than before. He shook his head going back to his book which he read, highlighting things he thought were important, it was going to be a long morning.
