Part 16
Greg was a man on a mission. Even through the haze of alcohol he'd seen that John had grown stronger over the last 12 years and he had this vixen beside him too.
Caroline. It was 11 years since he's last had a girlfriend. His last had run off with one of his 'business rivals'. She said he'd been neglecting her.
John's wife to be might not be model or film star material but there was certainly something about her. She was part of John's new life as well and Greg wanted his share.
He and his mates infiltrated the village community. There were always ways of surreptitiously getting information out of people, charming it out of them before they realised what was happening.
In this way, Greg discovered that Caroline and John both went out on Thursday evenings.
It amused him no end to hear that John played rugby for the village. It seemed that ¾ of the teams OH's now went to the same 'Yoga-size' class that Caroline went to, so the men used the opportunity to meet up down the pub.
He was pleased ( too pleased for it to bode well ), that Rick Soweby was mentioned, not only as a rugby player but as a co worker of John's.
So Greg laid his plan.
On the Thursday before Freddie and Charlie were due home from London, he took his gang and watched the house as Caroline and John both went out .
One of his mates was an expert at disabling security equipment and whilst some of the gang distracted the security guards he went to work. Tonight it was Jim and Stewart on duty. Greg had checked it wouldn't be Ted and Dennis who would recognise him.
Greg let himself into the house through a window. He left the light off so as not to attract attention to his presence. He helped himself to several drinks whilst waiting for Caroline to return home alone.
Jim and Stewart were having problems. The security cameras were all out of order as well as the burglar alarms. There was no doubt that someone had tried to lure them away earlier but the gang hadn't let themselves be seen.
Greg had known they would check the house suspecting a robber. At the first sound of them being in the house Greg hid himself so went unnoticed by the puzzled guards who went instead to get the equipment mended.
Caroline came out of her class and heard her mobile ring. She was baffled to see that it was Jim ringing her. He explained about the security system being 'on the blink' but said he'd seen no sign of a break in. He assured her that he and Stewart were arranging to get it 'given the once over'.
' I'm sure you're doing everything you can Jim'. Caroline assured him. ' We 'll just need to be extra vigilant for the time being, that's all.'
She let herself into the house, going straight to the kitchen to put the kettle on.
She jumped out of her skin at the sound of a vaguely familiar and completely unwelcome voice. 'I'll have another beer love while you're at it'.
'Greg'. Caroline didn't turn around. She wanted to be composed when facing him.
' What are you doing here?'
Greg sat down putting his feet up on the table. Amused to find them batted down.
'Well. It'd be a poor do if a bloke couldn't visit his own brother'.
'You got drunk at our expense I see'. Caroline looked at him in distaste ' and I've told you before that there's no smoking here. ' The smell of tobacco smoke was nauseating.
'So what is it that you want this time?' She stood looking down at him and Greg felt a wave of lust hit him.
'Same as last time love'. He answered. 'Our John's hit the big time and I reckon he ought to share with his nearest and dearest'.
