Sal

Liza was starting 10th grade soon, and she had no idea what she was going to do. She's just moved from Italy and she doesn't know a thing about the environment in New York. She already told her parents that she's sure the kids will make fun of her Italian accent. Her mother assured her that they wouldn't. Although Liza wasn't too excited about being in New York she knew that her father had a better paying job and that's what her family needed. Liza had just realized that it was 8:30 and she was going to be late on her first day. When she arrived at the school a short kid with curly red hair and braces awaited Liza to show her where her classes were located. He said, "My name is Sal". Liza said, " That's a cute name!". She could tell that Sal was blushing. Finally arriving at her first class Liza sat down. There weren't many kids in her class so she had hope that her first day was going to be okay. The teacher started calling kids for attendance. "Liza Minetti" Liza immediately said "here".  Mrs.Miller who was her Homeroom and Science teacher brought it to everybody's attention that Liza was new and that everyone should go around and say a fact about themselves. Liza didn't know that Americans did that in school. She thought it was a joke and she was sadly mistaken. So when it was her turn to say something the only thing that came to mind was, " I'm from Italy". That was a mistake. For the rest of the day, she had kids coming up to her saying "Is spaghetti your favorite food, or do you prefer pizza?" When Sal came up to her she expected the same from him but she was surprised to hear him say something normal. He asked her if she wanted to study after school and she needed to make new friends so of course, she said yes. They decided to go to Sal's because Liza's house was still a mess from unpacking. When they arrived Liza was so shocked to see a huge house with three Mercedes out front. She was so used to three-bedroom houses and Nissan's. Sal's mother comes out and says "Hello dear! You must be a friend of Sal's". Sal was a little embarrassed. They go into his room and she notices a huge wax figure of Darth Vader. Sal told her that he was a huge fan of Star Wars and that he's seen all the movies at least 10 times each. Liza decided to tell him an embarrassing fact about herself. She told him she was a big fan of Twilight. Sal asks her why.  Liza said that she has always been fond of Vampires and Werewolves. A few hours later and they're finished studying. Liza tells Sal that she had fun and she looks forward to a great friendship. When she gets home her mom asks how her first day was. She didn't say much except that she made a new friend and that he's kinda nerdy but she still really likes him. Liza went to sleep that night thinking to herself that maybe this year won't be so bad.
