When I wake up the next morning I see that Olivia is still sleeping at the base of my neck. I smile happily and yawn. “I'll stay still until she wakes up” I whisper to myself. I wait a few minutes for her to wake up. When she does wake up she sits and sleepily rubs at her eyes. “ morning sweetheart” she says groggily to me.
“Good morning Olivia” I say and carefully sit up. I look down at her and see her stand up. Her dress had gotten a bit dirty and wrinkled from sleeping outside with me, but she seemed fine with it.
She stretches her arms over her head while asking me “ how are your owies doing?”. My injuries still hurt, as expected, but not as much as they did last night. However, there was this nagging pain in my stomach. I needed food, and preferably soon.
I smile down at her and respond “ my wounds are doing fine, thank you for your concern. Also thank you for helping me last night… you didn't have to.”
Olivia rolls her eyes playfully at me and says earnestly, “ Of course I did! You were shot. If you were any smaller you probably would have died. You are very lucky sweetheart!”
“ Well… I guess that's true…” I mumble mostly to myself. She chuckles and pets at my leg.
“ I have to go and get breakfast now, mother wouldn't like it at all if I skipped a meal! You should go home and do the same now!” She yips before running off and going to her home. I chuckle to myself as I carefully stand up. I then start heading home. I knew where I was because I've seen this lovely town before, I just never went near it. I didn't want to scare the little people. I would had never imagined that they would hold me hostage!
I arrive at my cave sometime later. I had a pleasant walk, well except for the aching of my empty stomach. I can't even remember the last time I had eaten! I rub at my stomach as I hurry inside my home and to the room I keep my food in. I grab a modified apple, one that is scaled for me to eat, and start munching on it.
I close my eyes in bliss as I bite into the bright red apple I picked up. It had a slight crunch to it, it was sweet, and it was juicy. It was perfect, or at least that's how my hungry mind and starving belly saw it.
I sit on the chilled ground as I eat my apple. I finish it in a few minutes. I grab another one as I was still quite hungry. The second apple I ate was green and had a tart taste to it. Nonetheless it was still a really good apple to eat. Once I was done eating I lay down on my back and sprawl out with a very happy sigh.
I lay there with my eyes closed in happy bliss for a few long moments, happy to finally have food in my belly.
I then sit up and look around the room to see if I can spot either Jarry or Rosey. I didn't see either of them. I get up and wander through the few rooms of my cave. I didn't see either one of them inside. I then scent a bitter scent that I didn't notice in my haste to get food. The scent was blood.
I quickly walk out of my cave and follow the scent of blood. An animal or a person could be hurt! It takes me about five minutes to find the source of the bloody scent. My own blood runs cold when I see the source.
It was Rosey and Jarry. To my horror I see Rosey was laying on her side, blood spilling out of a wound on her neck, and she didn't look like she was breathing. Jarry had blood on his hands.
“Sil! I'm so so sorry! I know what it looks like but it was Nanoo-” he tries to say but I had quickly crouched and pushed him away from my deer, it wasn't enough to hurt him though. I blamed Jarry, I honestly did.
I shakily scoop Rosey's limp body into my hands. She wasn't breathing and she was cold. Tears well in my eyes and makes a stinging sensation in my throat. My poor poor baby deer was gone, just gone! She never even got to make it to her first year! I feel tears start to trickle down my cheeks as a stare down at my pet.
“Sil, I'm so sorry! I can-” Jarry starts to speak but I angrily cut him off. I didn't even give him a chance to explain, I was that angry and heartbroken. Bearing my fangs and giving a small anger growl I snap at him, “ Shut up! This is all your fault! I asked you to take care of her last night! Just leave and don't come back!”
I can scent Jarry’s fear as he backs up slowly then runs away. I couldn't help but to break down into sobs as I cradle my dead pets body. Jarry had said when we first meet that he stole pets, did he mean that he stole their lives? This want fair! It just wasn't fair! Rosey was my first longtime companion! I cry for what seems to be for hours while cradling. My baby dear.
I don't know if it was actually hours, but it seemed like it to me. Soon my eyes felt heavy and I felt tired. I gently pet my limp pets fur and I sniffle in sadness. I then shakily stand up and start slowly walking to the lake. I take a lot longer than I usually do to walk to the lake. I wanted to say my goodbyes to my very beloved pet. I was going to bury her under her favorite tree by the lake. I was very heartbroken, but I was also seething in anger. How dare Jarry let this happen!? I will never forgive him! I should have never help him in the first place! He can die for all I care! How dare he hurt the most precious thing in my life. My thoughts make me want to cry again. I let out a shaky sigh as the crystal blue lake comes into my view.
I slowly kneel by Rosey's favorite tree and softly shifts her to one of my hands. I was now sitting under her favorite tree, it was a olive tree. I give another shaky sigh as I start using two of my fingers, of the hand not holding Rosey, and start to dig. I figured it was time to hurry my poor sweet baby girl. I just don't see how anyone could do this to a baby deer. She was clearly a baby! She was only a few feet tall and still had the spots on her back! Tears start running down my cheeks again as I continue to dig. I wanted to make the hole deep enough so the wolves or any other predators for that matter, couldn't dig her up for a meal.
With a final, sad, goodbye and place her in the hole gently. I then cover her with dirt and gently pat it down. I then lay on my back and wallow in my sorrows.
