*Our stage is set in Ferris High School located in Spokane, WA one of the most populated cities in Washington State. All thru out Spokane there is LGBT pride all over the city, but just because the city accepts who you are doesn't mean the people in it do. That is what happens with 14-year-old, Joelle Lott. We start our scene with her at school*
Joelle (inside her own head): This suck's! I wish I could just come out and be heard, but no I must be the shy girl at school. If only people could hear my brain?
(Walking up to her locker when she glances over and sees a girl)
Cami: Hey Girl, how you doin?
Joelle: fine I guess, how 'bout you?
Cami: You seem off? You sure you good? I'm here.
Joelle: I know, and I am fine, I'm just tired, I'll see you later.
(Joelle walks away headed to the front doors because school is out.)
Joelle (In her head): Ryann is my best friend and I can't even be honest with her. I should be able to tell her. She will support me.... right?
{End of Act 1: Scene 1}
*Joelle walks home, and it takes about 15 mins to get home from school. She walks in and goes straight her room, even though her mother is sitting in the living room with her younger brother Maxx*
Maxx: (Running up the stairs to his sisters' room) Hey sis, how was your day?
Joelle: (Looking up from her phone) It was fine, how was your day?
Maxx: It was fun, I met some new kids and my teacher is kind of weird, but I don't like this one girl, she is snotty and annoying. But I know some kids from last year, so I wasn't shy the whole time, also......(Getting interrupted by their mom walking in)
Steph: AJ, I need you to watch your brother, I just got called into the bar. I'll be back later, don't keep him up late and make dinner. Make sure you do your homework before you do anything else.
Joelle: Okay mom, I will, and we will be fine, see you later.
(Turns and looks at her brother, smiling and happy, her eyes looking very supisous, and her brother's eyes widen.)
Joelle: Ready for some fun!?
Maxx: YES!
(Both of them ran downstairs to the kitchen and decided to make hot wings and fries for dinner and then watch a movie while they ate.)
{End of Act 1: Scene 2}
*As they are watching the movie Maxx falls asleep, so Joelle takes him up to his room and tucks him in. Then she goes down and cleans up the living room and shuts off the TV, while she cleans up the dishes, she decided to text Cami. *
Joelle (Working on her homework at her desk): Ping! A message from Cami.
Cami: Are you sure that you were good today? (8:37 pm)
Joelle: yea, I just got a lot on my mind, I was just about to ask if we could talk. (8:39pm)
Cami: lol, glad I beat you to it. What's up? (8:41pm)
Joelle: if I tell you, please promise not to say anything bad or be mean it? (8:43pm)
Cami: AJ I won't, I promise. I'm your best friend you can tell me anything. (8:45pm)
Joelle: Okay good. (sent at 8:47pm)
Joelle: I have been feeling very distant because I am telling people something about me and I can't keep it hidden anymore. (8:50pm)
Cami: Okay, what is it? (8:53pm)
Joelle: I am gay, I like girls and I am sorry that I didn't say anything before. that I would lose you as a friend and I wouldn't have support. (8:55pm)
Cami: OMG! I am so happy! I wish you would've told me sooner, I 100% support you girl, I would never not care for you, even if your gay. (8:55pm)
Joelle: Thanks, I feared telling you. I haven't even told my parents yet, and I don't know when I'm gonna.(8:57pm)
Cami: well just be honest with them, it will take time. Just do it when you feel ready. I'm here if you need anyone. (9:00pm)
Joelle: I will and thanks for being supportive, I got to finish homework, I will see you on Monday at school. Love ya girly goodnight. (9:03pm)
Cami: okay girly, study hard. Goodnight (9:05pm)
{End of Act 1 Scene 3}
*Joelle came out to her best friend, but she still had one big barrier in the way before she is not scared anymore. She still has to tell her parents. *
