" This is how
we survive.
We tell ourselves
that we are
THE WALKING DEAD. "

With the Georgia sun beaming through the car window, the family of three were tensely seated in the back seat of a small sedan with two unfamiliar men sitting in the front. With the air conditioner far from working functionally, the adult riders were sitting on edge with sweat dripping down the sides of their faces and their skin sticking to the uncomfortable, leather seats. Gina and James's son was laying across both of their laps taking a long, needed nap considering the drive seemed to be taking longer than expected. Gina was running her fingers through her son's greasy hair trying to make sure he had stayed peaceful since he has been terrified of falling asleep since the beginning. Having a nine year with nightmares is already never an easy thing, but having a nine year with nightmares during the end of the world made it impossibly worse.

Waking up screaming at the night terror of his parents becoming the monsters they fight every day and attacking him caused horrible circumstances for the adults, especially when they would have to set up a camp in the middle of a roamer's playground. At some points in their travels, James or Gina would have to resort to muffling his cries and screams with their hands over his mouth because of the roamers that were no doubt near by. It broke their hearts at seeing their son so terrified of a simple action of just falling asleep.

Of course, the husband and wife were hesitant about the idea of coming along with the two men, but at that point they did not seem to have any other choice. Their son was starving and could not handle living out in the woods or an abandoned building any longer, especially with winter coming soon. However reluctant they were to admit it, they needed help.

With Ben being asleep, the adults knew to stay silent so the boy could stay passed out against his parents' laps. James sat staring heatedly at the two strangers, still not trusting of their intentions with him and his family. James and Gina have grown weary of people and their schemes after seeing how the world ending has changed them. They had met up with a few over the span of a couple of months, but unfortunately, they were not safe for the Andrews family.

After the car turning down into a neighborhood street, the husband and wife were able to make out a wall of large tires that stood easily twelve feet tall. There were spotters at the top with guns and bows pointed tightly in their hands when they saw the approaching car. They seemed to ready for everything. Gina and James looked towards each other in mild shock that the two men seemed to be telling them the truth about their community.
