I finish working on my ten patients (four of which I get to send home) and head to the lobby of the hospital. We get taught a bit more advanced healing and are sent home. It's six o'clock, and I'm exhausted. I eat the food package that I picked up before coming home. It's a replica of a type of meat from before the meat, it's called pork.
When I'm done eating I grab my sneakers, get dressed into something other than my hospital uniform, and head out to go meet Norenna. She got at the greenhouses, like she'd wanted.
I head into town. After I meet with Norenna, I go home. It's about eight o'clock. I go to bed.
The next day is about the same as the last, I wake up, put on my hospital uniform, walk with the other hospital employees to the hospital, eat breakfast in the lobby, start to heal people (I got to send two people home today), learn more about healing, go home, eat dinner, sleep.
I wake up to my alarm clock, which by now I've learned to hate for it's habit of waking me up at four AM, and get dressed. I head to the elevator and wait for it to come up. I step inside to the familiar sight of my fellow hospital employees. We ride the elevator in silence. When we get to the top we start talking about our patients, "I only have three left!" Sanala exclaims. I smile and say, "I have five." David, another employee, asks, "How do you guys do that? I still have nine." We all laugh.
When we get to the hospital we begin to eat. It's bacon and quail eggs today.
After we are let into the main hospital I begin to work on patients. I start with an elderly man, his name is Mr. Jones. I walk in to see him lying on the hospital bed. Dead. I feel a tear make its way down my cheek. I didn't know this man, but someone did. Someone, somewhere knew Mr. Jones and I had let him die. I make a note on his record, and cover him, whispering, "I'm sorry." I hand in the piece of paper that is his record and tell my boss what happened. They seem perfectly cheery, telling me that someone will be here today to pick up the bodies.
I head over to Katrina, the little girl's portion of the room. She's laying in the hospital bed, crying. I rush over to her, hoping that she isn't sick in some new way. I touch her shoulder and ask, "Is everything alright?" She shakes her head and sobs, "I-I'm better. They're sending me home." I smile and exclaim, "Well that's great news!" She shakes her head. "I live with my granny, she starves me! She makes me do her work and she won't feed me, she hates me, she- she said so." She looks down as if she's ashamed. I get an idea. "One minute" I say, and run up to the front desk. I sign for my break early and run out of the hospital. I run all the way to the legal center without stopping.
When I get there I give myself a little time to calm down and breathe. Then I step inside and walk up to the front desk. The lady standing there asks, me, "What can I do for you, ma'am?" I smile and ask, "Can I get a certificate to adopt?"
