The falling rain danced among the rooftops of the city. Even in this downpour the people somehow sought the shelter in the busy tea houses to remain there until the storm was over. The slender hand reached over to push the light curtain to glance outside of the window. With a sigh she knew well that the rain was indeed the cause of the business to die down much earlier than should. She knew as the next hour pass she might be closing the bookshop much earlier than was of her own liking. With her father now gone on the business that will occupy him for next few days he left her in the charge of the shop during his absence.
To Meixiu this was only a chance to get her hands on the boos to read that were not for women to know of especially the young ladies. Since young age as soon she was able to read on her own Meixiu sneaked the books from her father's bookstore and read them when no one was watching her. Today it was not exception either and with the book picked from the shelf she settled herself by the glowing lantern and started to read. It was always like this since as long she remembered the books were her companions through the long boring nights especially now as the winter was approaching and days were getting shorter.
Meixiu has no memory of her mother nor she even known of whom she might be. Only thing that she kept away from the sight was the priceless white jade carved as the cloud with strange looking markings on its surface baring the images of letters long faded away. It was one thing she never had taken off. As she settled herself for the quiet evening there was a loud bang on the main door of the store. Putting the book down Meixiu rushed to open and came across the two figures at the door step. Both were quite drenched by the falling rain, and neither of them wore any hats to protect them from the rain.
"May I help you gentlemen?" She asked quietly not sure how and why would someone come to visit her shop in this miserable weather when everyone else would for sure avoid.
"We are sorry to intrude at this awful time of the day but if you could allow us to stay in here for a while well until the rain dies." The one of men spoke dressed in the black and red robes with long dark hair held back in the high ponytail with bright red ribbon. The welcoming smile was on his lips and his dark eyes were sparkling with a mirth and mischief.
The young man was utterly adorable if not the one with the cutest face she ever seen. She felt herself blush at a moment he rewarded her with the sweetest smile that beamed like the ray of sunshine. But nothing seemed to prepare her upon gazing at the silent companion that was standing next to him. The beauty of this one was unmatched it simply was filled with the light of the peace and nobility that easily reflected in his stance and pure white hanfu robes he wore including the pale blue ribbon on his forehead and fancy looking silver hair ornament. The noble lines of his face and the notable cheekbones gave a status of high blood as his eyes remained firm or if not cold.
Meixiu closed the door after they stepped inside and locked it, then she moved toward the side table to pour some tea into the cups that were seated on the wooden tray. She didn't notice at all as Wei Wuixan glanced over the store until his eyes rested on a several protection talismans placed on the walls to block the presence of evil energy especially in the living undead or ghosts at the bay. He then looked back at the girl then made an eye contact with his companion.
"What do you think Lan Zhan? These are the protection talismans to keep the evil away. " the familiar dark gold eyes glanced in his direction.
"Hmm...I don't see any connection to clan sect she belongs to. Yet she does have the knowledge of well trained cultivator." With thar being said the both of them moved further into the room as the girl turned and motioned them to have a drink of hot tea and take a seat on the pillow cushions that were set on the floor beside the table.
"Who are you exactly? No book keeper has the specific knowledge regarding to repel the evil spirits and ghosts of highly trained cultivator." Wei Wuxian asked immediately jumping on the subject of the curiosity that sparked just by this strange girl.
"I am just a book keeper." Meixiu simply stated a bit amused by this sudden approach of conversation. "The talismans have no power here they just had been placed since the store was built."
"I don't think you are just simple book keeper Miss." The silent man in the white hanfu stated. Their eyes collided in a long glance."What clan sect do you belong to?"To which Meixiu simply shook her head.
"I belong to no clan sect I am simply the book keeper and nothing more." That was all she gave them as the possible answer.
