Morningstar

After my shower, I hopped in my car and turned on some music. No amount of music can outweigh my nerves right now – or even calm my nerves just a bit. I was chewing aggressively on my bottom lip – my poor lip is going to hate me. I had so many thought rushing through my head. I didn't even notice I was tapping my foot on the break - just because of a nervous tick, it wasn't until some idiot slammed on their breaks in front of me when I realized what I was doing. I took a deep breath and told myself to calm down, it's just another job... yeah, my dream job. What if I screw it up?

Since I was almost to the F.B.I. headquarters, I called Mr. Harding from the number he had called from earlier to let him know I would be there within minutes. He instructed me to park up front in one of the visitor parking slots and he would meet me outside. I gave him the description of my car and told him I would see him soon. Within minutes I found the closest parking spot and saw a man waiting outside. He was a tall man with a dark blue pants, brown suede shoes on and a light blue button up shirt standing right in front of the spot I was about to pull into. I squinted my eyes to look at his badge and sure enough it read 'Director Brett Harding'. Well shit, I was hoping to at least pop in a breath mint before I met him. As nervous as I was, I would never show it. I held my own, even being at 4'8", I opened my door and slid out of my car. I was a few inches away from the man I had been in contact with mainly through emails from the past few months. He reached out his hand to shake mine so we could exchange pleasantries.

"I wanted to meet you in the parking lot since you don't have clearance yet." Brett began as he started walking through the front double doors and opened it to let me pass, I nodded my head in understanding. It was all too real and fantastic. I never thought I would come to this part in my life but here I am. Brett walked to security so we could both be checked. I didn't really notice where the security guard was patting me down, all I noticed was how elegant this building was. All marble floor with large columns decorating the main floor of this building. There were many pictures of decorated F.B.I. Agents plastered around the main floor along with large stairways cascading downwards with such ease. I continued to follow Brett down a hallway where it led to an elevator. "It's pretty extravagant, isn't it?" I could feel Brett's gaze on mine. "It is absolutely marvelous! I've never seen anything like it!" I smiled knowing this is where I belonged. I felt at ease, just something about being here already felt like a second home.

He continued to show me around for a little bit, and we finally made our way to the conference room. I basically had to swear a blood oath not to reveal any kind of information about cases we work on, and of course I agreed. I had to fill out tons of paperwork. It was so much, I half joked that I should go out and buy a stamp with my signature on it and stamp on the dotted line. Brett continued to talk about the F.B.I. headquarters while I read through the paperwork and signed on the dotted line. After signing the paperwork, I had my picture taken and was given my new badge within a few minutes. "This will give you clearance to enter the building, but of course there are still some areas in the headquarters you don't have clearance yet." We began to walk down the hall, as he was making sure I wouldn't get lost, being my first time here, it was very nice of him. "So, what's in here?" I pointed to the glass windows that opened up into a lot of desk and a bunch of people buzzing around, talking to each other or talking on the phone. "Here is where the field agents resign. Since you'll be in the technical field, I will show you to your office Monday. You will also have a partner, which I'm not sure where he is just yet." Brett began to walk around looking for my partner, asking a few people if they have seen him. I followed Brett into the field agent area, where he continued his quest asking the whereabouts of my new partner. I didn't realize I would have a partner, but I am thankful for the extra help none the less. "Eve..." I could hear a man say. I turned around - knowing the man was trying to catch my attention and was face to chest with an unknown man. I darted my eyes upwards and began to say "No... I'm Emma." He looked confused which in return made me confused. He was tall, devishly handsome, and a smile that could make a woman drop her panties for him within mere seconds. He had piercing blue eyes, nice tan going on about 6'4 and wore all-black tailored suite that hugged his body in all the right ways. We stood there and stared at each other; I couldn't advert my gaze for some reason. "It can't be... I killed you." He said with a half-smile while cocking his head to the side. I guess he was trying to figure out if I was who he thought and did this man just admit to murder... in an F.B.I. headquarters?! I was about to say something before Brett Harding grabbed me around the waist about to lead me away. Brett then noticed this strange man and began to introduce the two of us. "Oh, Emma, this is Lucifer Morningstar, Mr. Morningstar, this is Ms. Hogan" I didn't know where to begin, was this a joke? The devil himself just openly admitted to murdering me and come to find out... he's the devil? What. The. Fuck. I kind of jokingly extended my hand to shake his, and he took my hand and kissed my hand. "Please don't tell me that the devil himself is my partner?" I smiled, but the nerves were coming through again. Something about this man, didn't sit well. "No, your partner is on his lunch break right now, I guess he took a late lunch. However, you will meet him Monday."
