Your eyes felt heavy. You took in a deep breath, and dragged your eyes open to see the sun shining through your bedroom window. Dust danced and flew in the rays, and the room felt stagnant, yet warm and welcoming.
Pulling the covers off of yourself sent a shiver through your spine. You had gotten so used to the warmth in your body overnight that when the temperature suddenly changed, even by a little, you felt so cold and exposed. You rubbed under your eyes to wake yourself up so you could get some water. Your mouth was so dry, and you needed to drink something. You pull your legs out from under the covers and grab the glass on your bedside table, stumbling towards the kitchen.
After you finish brushing your hair and teeth, you dress in a white button-up long sleeve shirt and black skirt with tan-ish pantyhose. You tie a nice black ribbon into a bow around your collar and tie up your hair into a low ponytail with another one. You walk back into the kitchen to eat breakfast before leaving for work.
------------
You put on a jazz record and watched the people walking by as you rested your head in your hand. Despite the hustle of the city, everything seemed so calm. You blinked slowly and smiled, thinking of only your breath and the warm air of southern spring.
Suddenly, your day dreaming was interrupted by the door swinging open to reveal a tall, thin man with a red coat folded over his arm. He had short, fluffy brown hair and ovular glasses that rested gently upon his nose. He wore a white shirt and deep red vest, his hands hidden by black gloves. "Hello?" the man asked as he walked inside. You stood up straight to greet him, snapping out of your daydream with a pretty smile and a cheery attitude that you would really only use with people you just met.
"Hello! The name's Y/n, how can I help you today?" Maybe that was too cheery. Yeah, it seems fake.. You thought.
"Why hello Y/n!" The man chirped. "I need to have the tear in my coat mended right away! I've got a show soon and I simply can't attend like this."
For a split second he seemed like he might've also been faking his happiness, but his felt authentic, and there was no logical way to describe it. "Of course! I'll get it fixed for you as soon as possible!" "When do you need it back by?"
"I will return for my coat in about.. two days!" The man smiled while placing his coat on the counter. Clink! The pocket made a noise that sounded like metal pieces. The man felt a flash of panic, and you could tell that he was worried.
Pretending like you didn't notice was difficult, but you didn't break character. "Okay. You can just come in then and I'll have it on the mannequin for you." I folded my hands on the desk .The man said thank you, waved goodbye, and left out into the busy streets; the click-clacking of his shoes following not far behind him. He looked so familiar.. you had definitely seen him before somewhere, and hopefully you'd get to know him another time.
