Chapter Three

It’s been two day, two days since I lost my control. Two days of nothing but pure terror and nightmares as my mind tortures me. Day in and day out I fight with what is real and what my mind congers up. I hate living in fear.

I walked into the hospital getting ready for my night shift when I heard something that just conformed that my past has been taking a toll on me.

“Damn Sky you look like hell.”

“Gee thanks Tim that’s what everyone just loves to hear first thing to work.” I spoke as I set my jacket down behind my desk as I went over to the board list of patients. I heard Tim come up behind me and felt him put his hand on my shoulder.

“What’s wrong with you man? I haven’t seen you this closed off since you first started working here five years ago. Is everything okay? Do you need some time off work?”

“No I’m fine, but thanks anyways.”

“You sure? I mean I can still give you pay when your off if money is the issue.”

“No just having sleep issues nothing more. So what patients do I get today?”

“Okay if you say so” Tim took his hand off my shoulder and went back to being our team leader, “Well we don’t really have a lot that are in need of major care, and the ones that we do already have people looking after them…besides one.”

“So I’m guessing the patient without one will be assigned into my care?”

“No.”

“No?” I turned around to look him in the eyes.

“Yes no.”

“Why not, I don’t have any other patients.”

“Because it’s the patient that you lost it on and I don’t want to give him to you just in case you lose it again.”

“Oh.”

“So I’ll be putting you on med duty.”

Wow this one patient is breaking everything I have worked so hard to get back; well I won’t let that happen. I got into the medical profession for a reason, and that is to help the people that didn’t have anyone to help them just as I did.

“No Tim I can do this. I promise I won’t lose it. Please- just give me another chance. If it proves to be too much I’ll give you back control.”

“Sky I don’t know. You looked really freaked out. What happened in the first place?”

“Truthfully I don’t know.” I said looking down, “Please just let me prove myself.”

I heard him sigh before Tim nodded. He went back to the reception desk and got a file. “His name is Jet Bloodhound, age 24, no medical problems but you could have guessed that due to him being all wolfy.” I took the file from him and started to read it.

He’s never had be taken the hospital. In fact last time he was here was a week after he was born and that was just to put him in the medical system, and that was basically all that was on this file. I looked more around the file for more information, and apparently he’s in the Bloodhound Canyon, if I remember correctly that’s a very ruthless pack.

Just my luck, what’s next he’s an alpha too.

I set the folder aside, “Okay let me see my patient.”

Tim and I then made our way into the ICU and he spoke more about Jet. “He’s not up at the moment. We managed to do a very good job on him Sky. You stopped the bleeding into his lungs that the crush windpipes cause. My team was also able to save his vocal cords so he might need a teacher on how to talk again, but the all depends on if his wolf takes care of that problem. He’s in wolf form now because he will heal quicker.”

He stopped outside of his door, I went to reach for the handle but Tim stopped me causing me to look at him with question. “Sky…I know you’re a wolf; now on what rank you were I don’t know nor care. You’re a good friends and coworker but I have to warn you…Your patient’s wolf is as black as night. If this causes problems to you, you let me know right away, and I will take care of it. Understand?”

I nodded my head and Tim let go. I looked towards the room, took a deep breath, and opened the door.

As I made my way through I noticed he was still unconscious, thank goodness. I don't know what I would do if he was wide awake.

I made my way to his vitals and made sure they were all in check and nothing was too high or too low. Once I was satisfied that his heart rate was at a normal rate for a wolf, and that his blood pressure was normal, I went over to the front of the bed to grab his charts to check on his progress since he went into surgery.

Since his surgery it appears that he has not been responsive to any tactics that the hospital staff has tried. Hopefully he isn't in a coma. I set the charts down and walked over to my patient.

I don’t understand why he affected me so much. I admit he’s cute with his short black hair, and soft tan shin, but that shouldn’t have caused me to freeze up in action. I took my left hand and genially brushed my pointer finger over his left cheek. His shin was really soft and it felt nice to have it against my skin. I looked up to see his face fully, and when I did I froze in my spit. Jet’s eyes were open…and they were staring at me.
