Pine Ridge Reservation, an acknowledgement of home and comfort. The scent of the trees and meadows when it had just rain, the scent of wild flowers mixed with mother's wasna being made. It provided a secure environment for my brother and I. When at school I often wondered why everything was so different for me, father always said that it was because I was 'special'. Something about me drew out some of our most sacred beasts that would come out from the depths of the forest to deul close to our homes. Drawing me out of my thoughts was a loud shriek, I assumed that Kohana was back. I skipped back to the house, leaning over to the side to look at the perch made specifically for Kohana. Crazily enough he was already there with a dead mouse. His sharp eyes turned to me, he slightly screeched and swooped to the railing I was leaning on. He was my best friend and an amazing bird, eagles are after all considered to be a symbol of vision.

"Zonta come inside, and have breakfast." my mother called from inside the house, the smell of cooked corn and chokeberries emanate from inside.

I sighed patting Kohana on the head slightly and turned towards the door.

"Coming" I say, " Hotah... Chaska," I yell to my brothers who are somewhere nearby.

Hotah is the first to run up to the door, and trailing behind is a very angry looking Chaska.

"What happened, Chaska, you look like you want to kill something." I exclaim worriedly.

"Don't worry about it little one, I took care of it." he said smugly.

"Yea but bloodied him pretty bad don't you think." Hotah said laughing and smiling wildly.

"Zonta, Chaska, and Hotah for the last time get in here now!" Mother yelled.

We entered the house, me still asking about the event that had led to Chaska being as made as he was. Hotah along the way was squeezing out information bits at a time. This all had absorbed our attention and we didn't even see the chief, or otherwise known as our father, already sitting down waiting patiently. Chaska Cleared his throat and lapped the back of Hotah's head lightly and tapped my shoulder.

"What a surprise, father, back from the hunt already?" Chaska asked in a surprised tone.

"No, I came to see everyone, the hunters and I are going to a council meeting with two other tribes." He said with a hint of gratitude.

"Father, I want to go with you, please, it would just be for however long you're going to be gone, I could get my homework before we go a-and finish it before I leave." Hatoh pleaded.

"Enough Hatoh you are still to young." Chaska scolded.

"Boys when you are both a bit older you will be tested, then you can be part of the hunters." Father said, he turned his gaze onto me, "You are one of a kind, Zonta, I believe that you will have a special position when you are older my dear little one." He exclaimed gently.

"Thank you father, I will make you proud," I said softly.

"Now, now, discussion later, everybody sit down and eat quickly, the bus is almost here." Mother said sternly.

After eating, and arguing over this morning's events, we were hustled out the door with our school bags. Getting on to the bus was always a fun sight, our friends were talking, laughing and joking and would always greet us with warm smiles. Wapasha and Kiya greeted me. I sat down next to Kiya, she handed me a little package.

"For your mom, my mother made some wasna and wanted you guys to try it." She said happily.

Her brother turned to us and said, "I don't think she did a very good job on them." He laughed but quickly stopped, seeing his sister give him a dirty look.

"Wapasha is just being stupid he doesn't particularly like wasna," she said laughing slightly, the continued, "Honestly I don't even know how were are related let alone twins."

"Because you guys act alike, even though you may hate it, it's true." I said truthfully.

"Zonta you wound me," Wapasha smiled lightly at me, and giggled.

"On a more fun note, did you hear what happened to Mato this morning?" Kiya asked.

She earned an odd glare from Chaska, it caused me to smirk.

"No I have not." I replied relatively interested.

"Well... apparently your brother, Chaska, overheard him talking about you, and your 'innocent act'." she said making quotes with her fingers and rolling her eyes, "You can't help but be a good person, it is literally in your name, Trustworthy." She smiled lightly at me.

Talking about little things here and there and about the summer beforehand, had made my friends and I not realize that everybody had gotten very quiet. I looked up and caught a glimpse of Mato entering the bus, he was bruised and had some scratches on his face. He made eye contact with me and immediately looked at the ground and took a seat by the front. Chaska smiled a bit and looked back at me.

"He won't be harassing you or any of your friends again." he said proudly.

I snorted and rolled my eyes, he always was there for me but Chaska needed to back off sometimes, it wasn't Mato's fault, he wasn't always mean, he could be sweet sometimes. I got up out of my seat and started walking towards the front of the bus, I felt someone grab my wrist, I looked down and it was my brother Hatoh.

"You shouldn't go up there, Chaska might actually kill him." He muttered.

"Oh, but what if I want to be friends with him, then what will he do?" I snarked, "It is my decision alright Hatoh so you and Chaska need to back off." I say glaring at him.

He realises me from his grip and sits back in his seat, I turn and continue walking down the aisle of the bus. I come to a stop right next to Mato's seat.

"Please leave me alone." He says quietly.

"I just wanted to talk." I say sweetly.

"So? Do you want your brother to be all over me? Beating my head into the ground?" He asked as he looked up at me.

"No, I wanted to sit with you because I feel bad about my brother did... he had not right to harm in any way over a stupid comment." I say getting angry all over again, "Plus it wasn't like it wasn't entirely wrong." I smirk while saying this to him.

"Please sit down and tell me what oh so bad things you've done in your life." He said sarcastically.

"Alright," I sit and begin, "I have vaped more than once, I have had a boyfriend before without consent of my parents, and I have had two F's in my entire life" I say sweetly.

"Ok, one that is like the most good girl thing ever, and two vaping is like a stepping stone into the mischievous bad boy realm!" He exclaimed.

"Yea, Yea I get it." I say laughing.

A couple minutes go by and we are at the one and only Red Cloud High School. Me and Mato got off together, I felt someone's eyes staring at me and him walking. I turned my head and met Chaska's eyes. I felt infuriated, I grabbed his wrist and walked to the front doors.

A/N:

Alrighty to start off the last story I did was a complete and total failure, however, I am releasing this one from the depths of gawd knows where (IDK). Any whose, I decided to change it up a bit since my grandpa has half Lakota Indian, and decided to base it around the fact that it is a Lakota Tribe in South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Zonta the main character is religiously awakened because she has a special ability to form links and summoning with Spirit Animals, which are basically just regular animals, but to indians they mean specific things and are very sacred to them. So Imma just put this out there......... this is gonna be corny as hellllllll, so you've been warned for whatever happens next.
