Chapter 12: Turn Back
In front of me stood Bunny, now frozen and grey. His fur was the same color but this time, it was different. He had the same color and texture as a stone, like the one standing before me was just a statue.
I noticed that the grasp of Medusa's tail lessen so I took the chance. I raised my staff and landed a frost attack towards her eyes.
She screamed like a banshee that announced death and finally let go of my body. Her hands reached for her face, feeling the pain of the cold ice. It looks like she won't be moving for a while.
"Bunny!" I yelled, realizing that my friend was under a curse that I couldn't solve with my staff. I tried to move him away from the snake woman with everything I had. His body was as heavy as a large rock.
Befanny and Sandy rushed to my side to help me with it, giving all their strength. One can see the grief in their eyes, carrying their now frozen friend.
"Look at it." I heard Pitch yell at a distance. He also ordered his subordinates to not strike anymore, showing that he was satisfied by our condition. "Even in the middle of the battle, there will be naive people who will sacrifice their lives for others."
I couldn't help but to grit my teeth and glare at him, but all he gave to me was a smirk of victory. It didn't give me emotion except irritation and anger.
"Such great courage... he never felt fear." He added, pretending that he appreciate what Bunny had done. It made me more frustrated. "That's why he deserved it."
"Ahhh!!!"
Letting the hatred control my body, I raised my staff and sprinted towards him. All I could think right now was to defeat him with all my power.
As soon as I got closer to him, I swayed my staff to freeze him once and for all. But with just one hand, he stopped my weapon from going further towards him.
I felt hopeless and powerless as I realized that he was stronger than before. I raised my head and saw his face that was more irritating than before. But at the same time, I felt something that I shouldn't feel in front of him.
This time, I felt fear.
Then, he raised his other hand and put his palm on my chest. After just a short second, an unexpected force threw me at an incredible speed, away from Pitch and towards a nearby tree.
I felt an intense pain on my back. I couldn't be able to move my body as black sand trails grasped for both my hands and feet.
If I didn't let out my anger at that time, this shouldn't happen to me. I was such an idiot.
"Jack, no!" I heard Befanny's voice plead for my safety. It was relieving to hear her worried about me, but I wished she wouldn't come here. I don't like her getting hurt.
Before I know it, Pitch was already floating in front of me, still not removing the smirk on his face. His glare was looking down at me, like I'm nothing but a hindrance. I wasn't even worth it to fight.
He raised his hand and a pile of black sand swirled on top of it, forming into a small dagger with its blade pointing at my chest.
"This is the end for you, Jack Frost." He said, then ordered the dagger to bring me towards my death. No matter how hard I try to avoid the attack, my body won't move.
"No!!"
I heard Befanny's voice once more, but now, it was closer than before. I tried to search for the source and there, I saw her running towards my direction, willing to stop the blade.
But before anything will make it toward me, either Befanny or the black dagger, someone suddenly dropped from the sky, stopping the blade to reach me.
The impact made the black sand surrounding me to fade away, causing for me to move freely. Befanny who were full of anxiety earlier finally approached me.
They landed with a bang, loud enough for the nearby ground to crack. Smoke of dust surrounded the scene. But I could see the silhouette between the dusts, and I already had a clue who were they.
"We apologize for the wait, everyone!" A deep voice with Russian accent can be heard coming from it. In no time, the smoke finally went out and revealed them.
I couldn't help but to smile widely as I saw her colorful wing and two cutlass swords hanging in his hands. I know that it's just been days but it feels like years not seeing them.
There they are, North and Tooth Fairy.
"You think your arrival will stop me?" Pitch said without fear in his eyes, but that doesn't mean he was underestimating them. "I have companions right now, just like all of you. I guess we're even."
"But... this is farewell." He added, turning his back to us and started walking towards his comrades.
"We'll come back, Guardians." He stopped in his tracks to take a glimpse of our condition. The way he stood like he could finally get what he wanted made me more upset.
After that last words, they left us with no more tension and just a silence that screamed our failure. The sun couldn't even pass through the dark trees, just like how we couldn't defeat him.
I also couldn't help but to blame myself for what happened. Before, I could be able to defeat him with my power, but right now, I looked pathetic. I'm now just a weak winter spirit and not like a Guardian anymore.
Sandy walked towards our direction, carrying the stone Bunnymund with his golden sand trails. His face was the same as before, depressed.
I approached Bunny who had no hope of moving at all. He was being hit by Medusa's curse just to save me. I should be in his place.
"Bunny..." I mumbled his name, as I clenched my fist. I had no idea on how to save him now, but if there's a way, then I'll do anything to remove the curse.
"We should take him to Ombric." Befanny suggested as she looked at me, the worry in her eyes earlier was still there.
Then, she plastered a smile on her face, but it was mixed with sadness. I couldn't help but to be upset at myself for making her smile like that. She might be worried about my sadness that even she was affected.
"He can fix him, as far as I know." She said. I also smiled at her but just like her, I couldn't remove the grief I felt.
"Now come on, people!" North yelled at all of us. On his back was the big sleigh he had been riding all these years.
Sandy decided to continue carrying Bunny towards the sleigh in a careful manner, didn't want for him to crack into pieces.
"Careful with his tail." North whispered and we finally set off to our destination, the Bigger Ben.
A/N:
Hi, long time no see, everyone! I'm really sorry the chapter update was postponed to October 18 even though I said that I will update yesterday.I joined an online journalism contest so I couldn't be able to write and got busy, plus the school is back. I might not be writing so eagerly until this school thing will be over.
And by the way guys, a new character will be introduced next time which is Ombric. He wasn't my character. But if you don't have knowledge about the unfamiliar characters here, you can ask me on the comments and if you have questions, you can ask it as well. :)
I'm very happy that you were all staying tune to this fanfic. I thought no one will since it's not that long.
But don't worry, there are more events happening in the future than what you think! So keep tuning!
See you all!
And forgot to mention to vote if you like my story!!
