"Alva originates in Old Norse language and means "female elf". It is a feminine form of Alf. It can be used as both feminine and masculine given names, the famous male bearer being Thomas Alva Edison"

This is actually my first mythological thing I've written in my whole life. It was really hard to do so, but a Tumblr follower requested a dark fic surrounding VIXX' Leo and this is what my mind could come up with. I've decided I might as well share this little drabble here. The mentions of blood and death will make this story rated, not sexual content. I'm sorry.

"In Norse mythology, Valkyries are hosts who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live."

Slowly rising from the cold hard wooden surface, distant cawing of a Raven reaching her ears and making her come back to her senses.

“Alva.” She looked up to the figure hovering above her, eyes growing wide in realization that she was not alone anymore.

“Who are you? What happened?” The man remained silent, instead reaching out his arm to gesture to her to take in her surroundings. It had been months since she had been at see, sent out by her village to set sail to their rivaling enemy. Ambushed by them at sea, one ship managed to get away. However, hers was not one of them.
Men and women from different ages lay across the deck of the now almost soothingly rocketing ship, the slight after waves of the storm being the cause. The sickening smell of blood had reached her senses, making her jolt to her feet and grab for the sword close to her, immediately raising it to the mysterious man. He however chuckled, stepping closer to her, not seeing her as a form of danger.

“D-Don’t get any closer or I’ll attack.” She silently cursed her wavering voice, courage although not faltering and as much as she saw the strangely serene man as a threat, the urge to know his origins overcoming her distrust. He however kept his composure unfaltering, carrying himself as important as he had done so since the first moment she laid eyes on him.

“You don’t seem to be that sure of yourself, Alva, as you need to warn me for your actions. Are you really worth it?”

“Worth what?” The man sighed, his long ebony hair swaying slightly in his face while his white garments looked too cleanly washed for a location two days from land. The previously distant Raven settled down on his shoulder, making Alva narrow her eyes at the violent animal. However, the bird seemed calm, letting the man softly run his fingertips across its scalp soothingly.

“Should we explain it to her, Corvus?” The Raven seemed to be attentive to his master’s words, moving its head characteristically as a bird of his kind would do. Alva grew agitated that the unknown man had chosen to ignore her and speak to his bird instead.

“I do not like being unanswered. Please, sir.”’ He looked at her with a blank look, his

“Because you’re so polite.” There was no mocking in his tone, even not when a genuine smile reached his lips and Alva thought he looked too beautiful to be human, face too perfectly proportioned and skin too untouched by the sun. “I am Leo, a Valkyrie.”

“Y-You’re not. They are myths.” He looked at Alva, almost condescending but a subtle glint in his eyes made it so he was just intrigued by the human race.

“So endearing. Are all mortals like this?” Alva ignored his comment, not believing him but at the same time not really closing out the possibility.

“Prove it.” Instead of answering her, he walked over to one of the bodies gracing the deck and Alva recognized it as her general’s, bending down to his level and chanting an ancient language, one Alva had only heard of from her grandmother. It was a language extinct, making her unable to understand. A blue light emitted from the lifeless man, slowly floating up and into the direction of the chanting man.
Leo had his eyes closed, the blue orb resting in the palm of his hand before he opened them and let it shoot into the dark sky with a final fast flash.

“Then.. You are here to take my life?” A just as serene nod as the ones he gave before suddenly seemed more nerve wrecking then it had been when he first assured her. Maybe it was the meaning behind it that was so offsettling, but Alva needed to know why.

“It’s more guiding you rather than actually taking your life. Follow me.” Alva did as she was told, shakily following Leo across the deck as she was convinced of his powers, yet not trusting him fully. They stopped at a female body this time. Her body had been scratched by countless of swords, one particularly long one piercing right through her heart and making a trickle of blood run down the corner of her mouth. Leo slowly turned her around, so her front could be seen clearly and the earth around Alva felt like collapsing.

“I can assure you that you’ve put up a strong fight. The ambush however caused you to fight six other male warriors at a time, causing you to die in battle.”

“Why.. Can’t I remember anything?”

“A soul’s death is erased from one's mind to let them rest in peace. It is to prevent the death from trying to break through the barriers that is keeping them separated from the living.” Albeit unreal, it sounded reasonable compared to the other explanations the man gave her and she nodded in response.

“It is unusual for warriors to take on a parallel form once they’re dead, only able to after a Valkyrie has guided their soul to the afterlife. Even after that, they will live in the Hall of the Fallen. Only the strongest of warriors can defy this, only able to if they are suited to become immortal.”

“Then.. I can become immortal?” It sounded absurd to the young warrior, everything settling in as she saw the Valkyrie nod, his hand reaching out to tuck a fallen strand of hair from her braid behind her ears. She warily let him, not without keeping her guard.

“Odin can create our species himself. But once every century, a single Valkyrie is set to marry and turn a human worthy of our kind to let our ruler save his strength. A situation is to be created to take his or her life, as they are destined to lose it. The human can never return to being mortal again, but can chose to be brought to the afterlife should they really not want to be turned into a Valkyrie instead.” He looked at Alva with patience, waiting for everything to settle inside her confused mind. He could sense levels of acceptance from her, feeling her energy change and submit to him.

“Who should I.. Marry to become immortal.” Leo bent down to her eye level, taking her chin in between his finger and thumb, lifting it to inspect her features. She warily let him do so, his proven powers convincing her as at the same time scaring her, but she had no other choice but to trust him. Seeing her ruthlessly killed body had made her feel more dependable of the humanoid creature, feeling some sort of comfort in his touch instead.

“Me, of course.” Alva looked at him incredulously, expecting the Valkyrie to already be paired.

“Y-You?” His lips turned upwards, the slight amusement in his eyes betraying him as he pressed his lips to hers briefly, shocking her even more in the process. Her initial instict was to push the stranger away, but his strong arms circling around her waist made her push those thoughts away. A strange, warm feeling enveloped her body, making her melt into it willingly, waiting for him to break the contact in favor of doing so herself. His touches felt light, featherly, almost non existent but they were there, making her mind spin and drown in what was him.

Leo eventually pulled away from the kiss, leaving her dazed and clinging to his form, eyes clouded over with the feeling of euphoria.

“Unless you want to have a date first.”

I changed up the definition of a Valkyrie a bit, but kept their essence the same. Also, I added a lot of parts to their myth, so please know I'm aware of this.
