'Crunch, crackle, snap, CRUNCH!' Went my footsteps. This was me attempting to be quiet along my route, towards my selected place. Running into bandits before I had even set up the base would be an absolute tragedy.
I found the red ribbon marker I had tied around a tree earlier, and smiled to myself. Perfect. I began by casting the protection shields all around, which took some considerable effort, taking into account the size of the place I had chosen. A few trees got in the way as I worked, but I managed to find a way around them all the same.
Once that was finally done, I thought for a moment about what kind of spell I would use to make the room. I decided that it should be quite basic, one window in the ceiling, and a small separate side room with a lavatory (for obvious reasons.) I should include some form of comfortable sleeping place, and I decided I would, should they need it.
When my structure was complete, I smiled at it contentedly. They would hate it! As a longstanding maidservant in the armoury, I had been thrown unfairly into prison 3 times, and was sick of the lack of respect towards my abilities. I must say, though, that the boy, Merlin, was much better than me at hiding from King Uther. I mean, I am a wanted sorceress across the 5 kingdoms, and I'm only 16. I consider that some sort of an achievement, they couldn't catch me if they tried!
Merlin and I had never spoken before. We had no reason to. He seemed to dislike me though, as if I were a threat. I could sense his powerful magic from a mile off, hence I started work at Camelot out of curiosity. He must have been at least one of the reasons I got thrown into the dungeons. It doesn't matter, though. I'm not exactly after revenge, it's hard being alone and all, but I am somewhat welcome back in my home village. Well, they don't snitch on me or my parents when I visit anyway.
My revenge was of a different sort, directed at Uther, of course, but not for his demise. This was going to teach him, and all the important people in Camelot, a valuable lesson. I grinned to myself. What a genius I was. Not only would I get my name cleared, but Merlin would surely be free too! I sensed it would ease his heavy destiny somewhat.
I could feel my magical tension getting close to breaking point in my shoulder blades. Just as well, it was almost time. I allowed my wings to stretch out from my back, and I soared off into the skies of Camelot, just above the castle.
Instantly, warning bells began to ring loudly, and I clasped my hands over my ears, groaning. Idiots. All I had done was shown myself. People in the streets saw me and began to scream, pointing and running. I swooped down lower so that they could see me better, and perched on top of a building. I waved at some kids being dragged away by their mother, who looked terrified. I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Yeah, me, attacking children.
Some guards came running to the foot of the building, holding their spears towards me. I waved at them, laughing. Some of them looked confused, but soon noticed why I had waved. The heads of their spears had detached themselves.
I flew off again, before seeing Prince Arthur on the ground, ordering his men to stand in formation, shouting intimidating commands at them. I laughed and went lower, my feet touching the ground lightly.
I deliberately sent all the other knights to sleep with a simple spell, leaving only Arthur awake. I walked a little closer. He raised his sword.
"Hi!" I said, with a smile "I'm Evie, and you are Prince Arthur, aren't you?"
"I know who you are," He spat, making me flinch "You're a wanted Evil sorceress, known everywhere."
I snorted "Wanted, Yes... Evil, Definitely not."
"Then what is your business here?" He demanded "I suppose you've come to kill me, then, have you?" He pressed his sword to my chest and I raised my hands mockingly, smiling.
