"It was uneventful." I couldn't say more. What happened ... I wasn't ready to tell anyone about that. "Same old, same old." I told Amber more than I told him.
"So, when is your next practice match? Which school is it with?" Taemin opened the white door and we entered the magical set that was his room.
One side of the wall was covered in posters of models, actors, singers, drag performers, movies, plays and musicals. Feather boas of various colours hung off racks on another. The windows had thick black curtains cutting out any light from the outside.
"Are you repainting your wall?" I asked as I saw the freshly painted half black and white part of the wall which wasn't covered up with his fabulous props.
"Yeah, it's Emo Boy Summer for me this year." He sat on the bed and crossed his legs. "Now tell me! When is the practice match?" He opened the can and took a sip.
"They haven't told us yet." I sat down next to the plushies arranged near his pillows.
"Weird." Taemin commented. "I found this new artist. He has the absolute best music, I swear." He took out his phone and played a song.
"It is good." I noted while opening my can. We drank and danced around before jumping onto the bed and falling back.
"I have missed you so badly for the last two weeks." He propped himself up on his elbows and tilted back his head.
"I missed you too, your highness." I put my arm around him.
"Yes. That's the respect I deserve, baby!" He smiled and put an arm around me.
I felt high. A sort of happiness overload. But the more I thought about it, the worse it felt. My eyes were going to betray me with tears.
"Are you okay?" His voice dipped into an unusual whisper as he leaned towards me.
"Yeah. See! You're making me cry!" I tried to joke but choked.
"What happened?" He said in the same calm voice, his hand now on my cheek.
I shook my head violently and sat up. "I wanted to ask you something." I faced him as he sat up with me. He remained silent, so I continued. "This is going to sound weird ..."
"Babe, we have known each other forever. Nothing can weird me out." He lightened the mood, making me loosen my stiff shoulders.
"Well ... do you want to ... I mean, I want this, kind of .. do you want to be friends with benefits?" I blurted out and I braced myself for his disappointment.
Instead I heard a chuckle. "What?" The heavy silent that followed weighted down on me. I opened my eyes. "Oh! Is it for that job of yours?" He quickly asked.
"Yeah ... yeah! It's for that! Yeah." I sputtered out. I'll tell him soon, I will. Just not right now.
"Sure." He smirked. I felt my heart stop. He wasn't disgusted by me? "It'll be an honour." He held out his hand.
Still in disbelief, I shook his hand. That worked?
"Wait, wasn't that girl going to come over today? Amber? Right?" He asked while leaning back onto the pillows, both hands behind his head. He seemed very calm about the conversation right before.
"She arrived yesterday. Very friendly. She has sweet eyes." I followed his lead and I put my head next to his, staring at the ceiling, studded with those green glow-in-the-dark stars of various sizes.
"She sounds nice." He said while turning to me.
"She lived in my room during the first week of my camp when she came to write the entrance exams and do the interview for the school so she's already feeling at home." I told him.
A comfortable silence set in and we enjoyed in for a few minutes.
"I told my mother that the church service was for three hours so I better get going now." I got up and walked to the door.
"Wait!" He ran after me and grabbed my shoulder. "Can I kiss you? Or is it too soon?" He said with a goofy grin.
"Next time." I said with a flustered smile. "See you later!" I left him standing at the door as I essentially ran out.
"Good morning Y/N!" His mother emerged near the front door.
"Good morning Dr.Lee! Night shift again?" I asked, taking notice of the her night gown.
"Yes. Taemin told me a new student at your school is living with you." She spoke while she led me to door.
"She is my mother's friend's daughter. Her parents have to move to another country for a few years and she wanted to stay here so she is staying with us for a year till we graduate." I told her.
"So you will have a friend at home too! That's amazing. Good bye!" She said as I inched towards the door.
"Bye!" I started walking at a fast pace while looking at my watch. It would be noon soon, I have to get home before that.
I halted in my tracks when I saw her walking towards me. A few other members of the volleyball team were surrounded her as she glanced at me. I quickly lowered my eyes. Breaking out of my trance, I walked ahead, trying to not meet their eyes but for a hauntingly long second my eyes met hers when I looked up again. I could hear them chirping but I couldn't get my attention away from her. You are the reason I wasn't walking to practice with them, Luna.
Uff! Another cameo. Also Luna's songs are so good! Go listen to them if you haven't already.
