Piece of Cake

"Oh my god this is amazing," I moaned with a mouth full of cake.

Eli peered over to my plate, "Is it really? Which slice is that you've had a few."

Shooting him a glare I shoved another heap of cake and icing into my mouth. Wedding planning hadn't allowed us to make many decisions together. Our mother's were running the entire operation and were constantly pulling me away to join them. And while they didn't ask for Eli's opinion too much, my father was obsessed with having "man time" with Eli, Derek and their dad.

"Baby you know we're supposed to choose one cake," he stole a bit of chocolate cake off my plate.

I pouted, "But they're all so good."

"Yeah," he gave me an odd look, gazing at all the empty plates in front of me. "Are you sure you've been feeling okay?"

"Of course!" I wiped my mouth with a napkin. "If I felt sick would I be able to try all these?"

He sighed, stacking our dirty plates and silverware together, "That's what I'm afraid of."

Ignoring his mumbling, I searched the menu for any other cakes I had missed, "So, what surprises were you talking about the other day?"

He carefully took the menu from my hands and folded it to the side, probably trying to prevent me from further racking up the bill. "Well, I never got to formally propose. Nor did you ever tell me what type of ring you'd like. And, I'd want to discuss our honeymoon."

"Oh..." I was at a loss for words. Traditional marriage wasn't taken very seriously in my pack. Unlike Eli's pack, couples usually had a casual Mating Bond Ceremony. "I've never really thought about that. Weddings aren't a big thing in my pack."

He grinned, "So I've been told. That's why I want to make it special for you."

"I don't really know how this is supposed to work though..."

"Well," he paid the bill and let the employee know that we'd need more time to make a decision. "We can talk about the honeymoon later but how about you choose one place you've never been to."

"Like...anywhere?" I asked with wishful eyes.

Eli scratched the back of his hair, "How about we stick to the states for now."

"Okay," I beamed at him. "New York City."

"Mom would you stop for a second!" I screeched while taking a stack of shirts from her hands.

She huffed and placed her hands on her hips, "What? I'm just making sure you have everything before you go."

"Mom," I whined, "We're only going for four days. I have everything I need, not my entire closet."

"Fine, fine, fine," she rambled as she disappeared back into my closet. "Are you sure you'll be okay? You've never been that far away from us."

I trailed behind her to help put away my things. "Don't worry Mom, nothing will happen to me. Eli is going to be there too and you know he takes good care of me."

She nodded, seemingly convinced, "You're right. Eli's a good boy. It's just that...you're growing up so fast," she teared up a bit. "What am I going to do when you leave? I'll be all alone with your crazy father!"

"Hey!" my dad yelled from my doorway. "Don't act like I'm such a nuisance, you wouldn't be able to live without me."

I laughed as my parents joked around with each other, hugging and sneaking small kisses. In a way, it reminded me of Eli and I. How our love language was always physical touch. How even the brush of our fingers tips sent sparks through my entire body. And the idea of anyone else holding me the way he does was almost sickening. Looking at my parents I knew exactly what I wanted with Eli. The very thought of growing old with him made my heart flutter and warmed my cheeks. As I constantly reminded him, I would give him the world.
