It was three days before my 28th birthday. We had been together for about five months and back from Colorado for almost two. He had hinted about plans for my birthday, but we hadn't really discussed it yet. I had never been in a relationship over my birthday and it was never a huge deal in our family. He seemed a little nervous and I didn't want to make a big thing about it.
"Ah, but you see, birthdays are special days. They only come once a year?" I smiled my best smile and tried very hard to hide how nervous I was. This was the first of hopefully many birthdays we'd share. It didn't have to be big or extravagant. It just needed to be special. "Soooo- what do you want for your birthday?"
The question caught me off guard. "Chocolate cake? I don't know what kinds of things do you get for your birthday? My family always just gave me clothes or gift cards. We never made a big thing out of it."
"The most precious gift my family has ever given -- time. We'd hang out, eat cake or whatever, cheesecake if I get my way, do something fun together for a while then call it at the end of the day." We were sitting on the couch in my apartment. I didn't have anything more than what I needed. "It's not really about things," I gestured to encompass my place, "I don't have a whole lot of things. Don't need them. If we were to go out and do something, what would you wanna do?"
I leaned into his chest. "I like spending time with you." I drew shapes on his chest with my finger and raised my eyes to meet his. "I don't mean to be difficult. We could go out to eat, or go bowling."
"Good, 'cause luck would have it, I like spending time with you. You're not difficult. Stop that." I gently tapped her nose. "Leave the day and day after open for me please?"
I giggled and smiled at him. "That I can do." I leaned up to kiss him softly. "You spoil me." I was curious as to what he would come up with. "I love you." I knew anything he had planned would be amazing.
"I love you too. Hungry?"
I nodded. "Very."
"Then we should probably get some food." I looked down into her face and brushed her hair behind her ears letting my fingertips trail lightly along her jaw to her chin. I smiled softly before I claimed her lips as mine. I moaned tenderly and let the kiss linger until it burned then I pulled away and licked my lips.
I moaned when he pulled away and attempted to catch my breath. "Food? What's that?" I giggled. "Are you cooking or are we ordering?"
All I could do was smile. "What do you want to eat?"
"Oooh. Chinese."
"Sure. I picked up my phone and dictated her order to the person on the other end of the phone, then settled back on the couch to relax a little. "Wanna watch tv while we wait or do you have something else on your mind?"
I laughed. "We never end up watching tv. How much time do we have?" I pulled myself into his lap and claimed his lips with mine and threaded my fingers through his hair. A little bit of making out never hurt anyone.
"Until the doorbell rings." I wrapped myself around her and slipped my fingers into her hair.
I took control, knowing clothes had to stay on. I continued to kiss him, taking a few brief pauses to breathe. I worked my way down his neck, taking care not to leave a mark. "Studio tomorrow?"
"Huh?"
"Are you in the studio tomorrow?" I knew the answer to that question would determine whether or not I got to spend the night.
"In the evening." I wrapped my hands around her waist and kissed her deeply. I broke the kiss long enough to ask, "Can you stay," Then dove right back in for another hungry kiss.
"Mmm-hmm." I moaned and nodded into his kiss. I liked everything he was doing to me, knowing we could take it much farther later. I whined when the doorbell rang.
I let the kiss break. "Be right there," then kissed her quickly one more time. "I need to get that." I carefully urged her off my lap. "Later. I promise."
I only pouted a little as I headed into the kitchen to get out his two plates and a couple of forks. I got out two bottles of water and asked him about wine when he came into the kitchen.
"Wine huh." I smiled and stole a kiss. She was staying the night. "I'll get it. Have a seat."
I took my seat and smiled at him. I was staying the night. He was planning something for my birthday. I was a very happy girl. I had never been in love like this ever, and I certainly didn't want that to change.
