"See! It's an easy and safe mission! We will be perfectly fine." I reassured Ava.
"Sure..." She replied. Though it was easy to see she had her doubts. I didn't blame her though, I had some of my own. Why did a safe location need to be scouted out for us to cut down trees? Sure there are mobs up there but what can a scout do against that? They spawn at random. I tried to push these thoughts out of my head but no matter how hard I tried I knew one thing for sure. Dream is keeping something from us. All of us.Our ninth day here began as we set out to go back to the surface for the first time since we arrived. After we received our mission yesterday we began preparing. Our day was spent repairing armor, making plenty of iron axes, and gathering other necessities for the surface like swords, bows, and food. I made sure to get a good night's sleep so today I can get out early and see the sunrise.
I got up this morning, grabbed my gear, and set off to Ava's room. Though she doesn't usually wake up early by choice, she agreed with me to get up for the sunrise. When I got there she was still packing up her stuff. "C'mon! We only have an hour to get up there and find a good spot!" I impatiently stated.
"I know. I know." Ava replied, "I'm almost done!" I can't believe we were finally getting out of this boring cave! Sure I've done things I would have never been able to do before, but after a week of the same thing, anything can seem boring.
Ava informed me that she was done getting ready and we sped out the door. We rushed down the hallway, taking twists and turns until we made it to the door out. The iron trapdoor was constantly monitored by a guard to make sure nothing got in. I followed Ava as we walked up to the exit. "Names?" The guard asked.
Before I could say anything Ava spoke, "Ava Smith and Kat Johnson." I stood there confused as the guard checked a chest for something. Ava has a strange new confidence about her, I'm always pushing her to be more confident but this was unsettling. What could've caused this?
The guard seemed to find what she had been looking for because she pulled two compasses out of the chest and handed them to us. "When you need to get back head west from the coordinates you were given. When you start getting close to the base there will be players out there to guide you back."
She placed a lever on the wall and opened the trapdoor for us, "Good luck out there!"
"Thanks!" I replied, climbing up the ladder and out the trapdoor. The entrance to our base was in a small cave but I could tell it was still night from the faint light of the moon shining in. We walked outside and saw the moon was just about to be out of sight, we had maybe ten minutes before sunrise. "C'mon! We've got to hurry if we want to catch the sunset!"
"Yea let's hurry!" Ava replies.
The cave containing the entrance to the base was at the base of a mountain, so we decided to head up that to see the sunset. Ava and I raced up, laughing and screaming the whole way. The look on her face seemed so carefree, I don't know if I've ever seen ava this happy before.
When we got to the top the sight was breathtaking. The sun was just coming up from behind a beautiful scene of mountains and trees. Everything about it seemed so surreal. Colors you would never see in real life painted the sky, the clouds were glowing soft purples and red. Still panting from the race up here, Ava and I just stood and took in the sight.
The sky started changing to a pale blue color as the sun grew higher in the sky. "I guess it time to go then...do you have the coordinates?" Ava asked, turning to face me.
"Yeah gimme a sec," I looked down at the slip of paper dream had given me and looked around. I remembered learning that the x-coordinates varied from north to south and the y-coordinates from east to west. Based on this information I was able to work out where we needed to go.
We started hiking back down the hill into the woods, talking about whatever random stuff came to our minds. This was the first time we could talk to each other properly since we spawned in, but while we walked an uneasy feeling began to come over me. "Hey, " I started, "You seemed super confident talking to the guard back there, where did that come from? Wait- oh I'm sorry it's not like you shouldn't be confident it was really cool and I'm happy for you I was just confused that's all!" I said frantically, falling apart near the end.
"Oh yea, don't worry! I was kinda confused after too - it was like something came over me. I think I was just excited to get out is all. It's so boring down in the caves, I'm actually really happy you made me go on a mission."
"I guess that makes sense." I agreed, but I still couldn't shake the uneasy feeling. It felt way too quiet and almost like someone was drilling holes into the back of my head. Every time I looked around though I didn't see anyone. Feeling nervous and restless I pulled up the coordinates again. "Oh, we're almost there. It's just a few blocks ahead."
"Sweet! My legs are killing me!" Ava replied. We continued walking to have the thick forest eventually break into a small clearing. In the middle was a little wooden gazebo with a few double-chests underneath it. "I guess this is it." Ava said.
"Yeah guess so. Do we just start mining the trees in this area?" I asked.
"I think so. Whelp I guess we should get to work." With those final words, we grabbed our axes and got to work.
