Celia's phone went off in her pocket, the clinking ringtone telling her it was an incoming Facetime call. Crap, let me get out of here...

Urgent!!! The text from Brooks read.

Once outside of the bookstore, she pulled out her phone again and called him back.

"Hey Brooks, what's up?"

"I have an awesome idea for a date-"

"Oh yeah?" Celia interjected, amused.

Over the past year or so, she and Brooks had stuck to the simple: after school study dates at the sub shop, listening parties, browsing the stores on each other's sides of town.
Celia was fond of this, opposed to the loud, uptight, and/or painfully fake date scenes that Brooks had encountered during his little application season social experiment.

"Get this. The perfect date. This summer.  Almost like a movie title, am I right?"

"Sounds good, but...what exactly would that entail? Are we gonna get on a little paddle boat lit up with candles in the middle of nowhere?"

"With rose petal decorations. I mean, if you want to?"

"No!" Celia laughed. "Well, anyways, spill the idea."

"Upon hearing the forceful rejection of your own brilliant idea, how about we just meet up later? Personally, I think my idea is so amazing that it's gotta be talked about in person. I'm not giving you the chance to reject it over the phone. That is, if such a great idea could be rejected."

"Hmmm, fine. I'm walking distance from The Cafe, if you wanna meet there."

"See you in a bit."

Readjusting her pack, Celia began her walk up the street, towards the cafe where it all began.

The moment Brooks told her to meet at the cafe, she knew something was going down. They had never met up like that before. And sure, he had an apology to give, but something about that phone call set off her radar. She fully expected him to be excited, having accepted his early decision to Yale, but he was acting extra suspicious.

Despite already expecting weird, reading that "acceptance letter" still left her sitting dumbfounded in the cafe, not believing how great this weird meeting turned out. And now Brooks is so casually trying to set up a "perfect date".

The perfect date. The stress of senior year has stretched on for so long that I didn't even consider what our summer plans would be. There is great potential here.
