"Harper! Dinner!" my mom shouted from the kitchen. I shook my head at her, she knew I had already eaten.
"I'm good, Mom!" I yelled. "I already ate!"
"Protein bars are not meals! You need to eat real food! You shouldn't need to lose weight to please other people!"
"Oh my god," I muttered, walking into the kitchen. "Why is it that you don't see anything from my point of view?" I asked her.
"You don't need a diet; it won't work anyway," she replied.
"Good to know that I'm so fat that even a diet won't help me," I replied cooly, throwing on my flip flops and walking out the back door.
I stormed past Drew, my mom's boyfriend, who was coming in from smoking a cigarette. "What's her damn problem?" I heard him ask as I made my way out of the garage and into the sinking summer sun. I made my way to the trampoline, pulling myself up to lay in the middle. Suddenly my phone rang.
Without looking at my caller ID, I answered the phone. "This is Harper speaking."
Katelyn, my best friend, screamed from the other line. "Harper! Guess what?"
Before I even had a chance to answer, she went on. "Ryan just texted me! He wants to hang out! Like with him!"
"Cool," I answered, picking at a loose strand on the bottom of my cutoffs.
"What's wrong?" she asked, suddenly interested in how I was feeling.
"Oh, nothing. Don't worry," I said, sighing.
"Ok," she said. "What are you wearing tomorrow? I'm so excited!"
I sighed. The first day of school. "White skinny jeans. Mint shirt. Probably some mint flats. I don't even know. I'll talk to you later. I have to go pick my outfit now."
I hung up the phone and walked into the house, avoiding eye contact with everyone. I laid my outfit out on my black arm chair, and looked at the quote picture that hung above my bed on mint green walls. "If anyone was meant to be perfect, they would have been made from a mold," it read.
I glanced at my phone, where a notification had popped up that Justin had liked my status. Butterflies bounced around in my stomach. I'd had a crush on him for so long. But he barely knew my name.
I set my alarm and and laid down in my bed. School tomorrow. Fantastic.
