At the end of the day, when I was getting my backpack out of my locker my phone rang. I looked at the screen and saw that it was Maya calling me.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey, are you working today?" she asked me. She sounded tired, almost like she had been crying.
I just gave Lucas a nod in acknowledgement as he walked up to me, "Um I'm supposed to for a couple hours but I can ask Lucas to cover if you need me to?" I asked her.
He gave me a confused look at my comment and I just held my hand up in a "one second" gesture.
"Do you think you could? I really need to talk to you." She asked me, sounding on the verge of tears again.
"Of course. Are you at your house? I can head over there right now." I said.
"Yeah I'm at home. Thank you Ariel." she said, sounding relieved.
"Of course. I'll see you in a few." I said before hanging up the phone.
"Who was that?" Lucas asked as soon as I pulled the phone away from my ear.
"Can you watch Clara today please?" I asked him.
"Yeah no problem. What's wrong?" he asked me.
I shook my head, "I don't know but that was Maya and she sounded really upset. She asked me to come over." I said.
"You don't think her and Miles broke up do you?" he asked.
"I have no idea but I'm not going to come up with any ideas until I hear it from her. And, if she asks me not to tell anyone, I'm not going to tell you." I said.
He nodded, "I understand. Well, good luck Princess I hope everything is okay." he said before pushing off the locker.
"Yeah me too." I replied before taking off down the hall to head to my car.
I drove to Maya's house, nervous about what she might say to me once I got there. I breathed a sigh of relief when I pulled into the driveway and saw Miles' car. At least they hadn't seemed to have broken up.
As I got out of my car and approached the ouse Miles stepped outside and gave me a small smile, "Hey Ariel." he said softly, I could see the worry behind his eyes.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
He shook his head, "I'm just going to let her tell you it's not really my place." he said.
I nodded once and followed him into the house and upstairs, where he took my to Maya's bedroom.
When we walked in I surveyed the room quickly and saw Maya sitting in her bed, curled up, and eyes red from crying, "What's wrong?" I asked, walking over and climbing into the bed next to her.
"Ariel I think I might be pregnant." Maya said, her voice breaking at the end.
I felt my stomach twist a little bit but I made sure to keep my face even. That was big, "Okay, what makes you think that? Are you having any symptoms?" I asked.
"Not really but my period is two weeks late and I'm almost never late." she said.
"Okay, well, there's a lot of things that could make you skip your period are you on birth control?" I asked and she nodded, "Okay that's really good have you missed any pills?" I followed up, to which she shook her head at.
"Even better. Sorry if this is TMI but I think we're a bit past that, do you two use condoms?" I asked.
Miles nodded this time, "Yeah. Every time." he said.
