Diana's POV
"Hurricane?!" I tried to speak normally, but it came out as a squeal.
"Yes, miss." She replied as if nothing bad was happening.
I looked up at the tv, where a news lady was speaking.
"An unexpected hurricane is soon to hit San Diego. It is also expected to hit Los Angeles and Santa Maria by 12 p.m. tonight."
I didn't need to hear anymore.
My blood chilled. How was I going to see Kristen?
I rushed to the nearest payphone and dialed her number. It didn't even ring. All I got was "this number has been disconnected."
"Fuck!" I yelled louder than I meant to, and got some states from people walking down the street.
Now that I couldn't board a plane, where was I supposed to go? I didn't want to go back to the Curtis house. But what am I supposed to do? It's already 5 I o'clock somehow, and I can't spend the night in the streets!
Then it hit me. I could just go to someone else.
I ran with all the energy I had left back to the east side. Dallas was the closest, so I decided to talk to him.
Running up to the door, I knocked loudly.
Not getting an answer, I began yelling.
"Dally!"
No answer.
"Dallas Tucker Winston, if you don't open this damn door I'm going to beat you so bad even Tim Shepherd would be scared to date me."
"Oh, hey princess." He finally opened the door.
I walked inside and helped myself to a seat on the couch.
"So, whaddya need, little runaway?" He let out a puff of cigarette smoke.
"I need you to drive me to Los Angeles by 12." I said nonchalantly.
He sounded more surprised than worried. "Are ya crazy?"
"Dallas, I really need you to do this for me!" I cried.
"Listen, I would drive ya to Los Angeles but by 12? That's insane. It's a 20 hour drive at the least, man! Why do ya need to get there so soon?"
"There's a hurricane hitting San Diego right now."
"So, do ya wanna get caught in that shit?"
I sighed. "Kristen lives very close to the coast. I have to go see her."
"Listen, I'm sorry man. But to get there in 7 hours, hell, I would have to go 200 miles per hour. And into a hurricane, that is just a bad move. Did you call her?"
"Line is disconnected."
"Your just gonna have to wait until the storm passes to see how she's doin'. I can drive you then. But now, I really think you should be gettin back to the Curtis house. They are really worried about you. Why don't I atleast drive you there?" He offered.
"Alright. Thanks Dally." I forced a smile despite my disappointment.
It didn't take long, and we were already at the Curtis'. I waved goodbye to him and silently headed inside, my head down to avoid eye contact.
"Diana, where the hell have you been?" Darry's voice rose - Even though I was only gone for like 8 hours. What's new?
"Downtown, the airport, Dally's." I replied honestly.
