Hazel twirled in front of the mirror (Okay, it was a pond.) and smiled at herself. The young raccoon was somewhat shorter than others her age. She had long pigtails that went past her waist, and blue bangs which hung over her amber eyes.
Hazel nodded ran out from under the shelter, and snatched her bow and arrows. Smiling to herself, she rushed deep into the forest she now called home. It was thick, and dark. Barely anybody, or anything lived here. It was lonely, and that's just how she liked it.
The young raccoon swiftly and agilely climbed a tree, scurrying to it's highest and strongest branch. She sighed happily as she leaned against the back of the trunk, staring up at the leafs over her head.
The forest was her home.
Sure, she had an actual home... But she was in danger every second she spent in the wretched place. She couldn't risk it.
Hazel's ears twitched gently as she heard the sound of footsteps walking towards the nearest clearing. She leaped up, hand on her bow and sliding an arrow into place. She closed one eye and aimed her arrow at the sound.
Finally, it came into sight. A blue hedgehog with red shoes. With a sly smirk, she fired the arrow at the hedgehog, missing purposely by an inch. The blue hedgehog jumped a bit and stared at Hazel in the tree, partly hidden in the shadows.
"You better run." She taunts. "Or else Hazel's gonna get'cha..." The blue hedgehog steps back, quickly turns and runs at the speed of sound. Hazel's eyes widen a bit, then a gleam of mischief shines in her eyes.
"A speedy one, hm?" Hazel grinned and slid down the tree trunk, dashing at her own light-breaking speeds behind the hedgehog. "You're a rare sight. I've only seen one other like you." She seeths, startling the hedgehog.
"Impossible. I'm the only Sonic there is!" The hedgehog snapped, losing concentration on where he was heading, and slammed face first into a tree. Hazel skid to a stop and lifted 'Sonic' to his feet. "Sonic, eh? I've heard of you... Freedom Fighters, huh?" She asked with a smirk.
"Yeah. And you're... What, Hazel?" Sonic replied, tilting his head slightly. "What did you think I meant back there by 'Hazel's gonna get'cha?'" She asked in a slight 'duh' tone. He shrugged with a smile. "Maybe you named your bow Hazel?"
Hazel looked unimpressed. "Uh huh. Okay." She rolled her eyes and let him go. Sonic looked at her concerned. "So... You said you saw another fast blue hedgehog like me before?" He asked. Hazel nodded, blowing her bangs out of her eyes. "Yep. But we were both real little. We were the best of friends, both extremely fast. But something happened to me, I can't remember what, but I never saw that lil blur again." She explained, glancing down a bit sadly.
"... Someone I knew used to call me lil blur... A raccoon friend of mine... When I was young. Before she disappeared." Sonic replied softly, piecing it together. The two lock eyes and stare. "You're... Back?" They said together.
"You mean you're Hazel? The little runt of a raccoon who always got me into trouble with the neighbours? The same little one who was literally tied with me in speed?!" Sonic asked, shocked. Hazel smiled brightly. "Yes-That's me! You were always like a big brother to me!"
Sonic rubbed his temples with a smile. "I can't believe this... All this time... You've been here?" He asked, gesturing to the forest. Hazel bit her lip and nodded slightly. "Partially..."
"This is amazing. Remember as kids we made a group with the neighbourhood kids? 'Freedom Fighters', and we helped with tiny problems in the area." Sonic asked with a laugh. "And here I am, actually making the group without my old best bud!"
Hazel giggled and hugged Sonic's arm. "Well- I don't suppose you could find a spot for me to join?~" she asked with her tongue sticking out. Sonic smirked. "If you can beat me to the base... You're i-"
He didn't finish his sentence. Hazel dashed off into the forest, following her instincts and knowledge. Sonic blinked, then grinned. "You're on!" In a burst of speed, Sonic raced close behind the raccoon as they made their way for the freedom fighter's HQ.
