Shadows danced against the walls, making graceful shapes in the moonlight. I looked around the corner of the alley to make sure nobody was there and quickly dashed to the other end of the street. Walking down the bare sidewalk, I went past a few shops and stopped in front of a specific one, "Barry's Elf Emporium". I crinkled my nose at the name but grabbed the handle on the front door anyway and yanked slightly, but it wouldn't budge. Yanking harder, I almost fell backwards from all the force I put in pulling the handle.
"Is this even the right place?", I thought out loud and took out the letter my parents left me. Looking at it again, I sighed. "Maybe they got the address wrong..."
I began to walk away in disappointment, but then I heard footsteps behind me and panicked.
