The Unforgettable Disaster

It was late in the evening on a beautiful August night. The sky was a navy-like color. There were stars that shined so bright, it lit up the night sky. Sophia and her father John were laying on the ground in their backyard, which happens to be a beach. Sophia was a very young and impressionable little girl. She had long, wavy blonde hair with bright blue eyes. Her personality was incredible. Whenever you would speak to her, she would always make you laugh. Her presence, which was warm and kind, overpowered wherever she went.

She lived with her father after her parents got a divorce. It was tan with a huge driveway, and was 3 stories high. She went to a private school where she met her two best friends, Jayden and Dani. They were the inseparable trio.

It sounds like she is living in a fairytale, but little did she know it was all about to change.

As we were laying on the cool sand, naming the stars, a tragedy occured. As it came to my father's turn I waited a few seconds but he didn't respond. I quickly checked his pulse and he wasn't breathing. I started crying and screaming for him to wake up, but he didn't. I didn't know what to do. My life, right in this moment, feels like a black hole that is never ending.

Later help came, and the ambulance took him to the hospital. I couldn't ride with my now deceased father, so I got a ride from a cop. His name was Gerret, and he was a close friend to my father. He tried to cheer me up.

"It's gonna be alright sweetheart. You're gonna be fine. Your father was an amazing man, and he will be there for you no matter what."

"Yea I know."

I know he was just trying to be kind and cheerful of this terrible situation, but he was doing everything but making it better.

After what seemed like forever, we finally arrived at the hospital. I went up to the reception desk and asked if I could see my father. The lady at the counter looked at me with sorrow in her eyes.

"I am so terribly sorry for your loss. The doctor will come to see you and then take you back when he's ready."

"Ok, thank you..."

"Halliana," the receptionist said.

"Thank you Halliana," I said while smiling.

I don't know if it was just me, but i feel like I've seen this girl before.

Just as soon as I was walking back to my seat, I felt someone touch my shoulder. Even though I jumped I decided to turn around. It was a cute guy in a doctor's suit. I wonder if he works out. By the way he looks, I think he does workout, and he is probably in his early to mid twenties.

"I'm twenty-one and I do workout."

"What?"

"You asked me if I worked out and you were talking about how old I am."

Once I realized I just said everything out loud while staring at him, my cheeks started to blush.

He giggled while looking at me.

"Anyways, to get on topic, you may see your father now."

I managed to get out a thank you.

Right as we started heading down the hallway where he was at I heard some people yell my name. I recognized the voices as my best friends. I was so relieved they came so I didn't have to embarrass myself anymore.

Once we got to the room the doctor told me that he died from a heart attack. I started to cry as he was uncovering my father's body. As I was leaning forward his eyes opened and he grabbed my arm.

My eyes opened, and that is when I realized that it was just a nightmare. I looked to my left and found my dad laying beside me. He looked so peaceful, I was surprised that he didn't wake up. I decided to wake him up, since I am still in a trance of my latest nightmare. He wouldn't wake up and that is when I realized my nightmare had become a reality.

All of the events in my dream had occurred except the cute doctor, me knowing the receptionist, and my dad coming back to life. Gerret came up to me and told me that I would have to live with my mother. I was freaking out, because this is a lot to take in during one night for a six year old.

I asked Gerret if he could take me to my mother's house, and he said he would. When we pulled into the driveway there was a strange man waiting outside by the door. As i got out of the vehicle the strange man came up to me and took my bags.

"Hello Sophia, I'm Rick, your mother's boyfriend."

"Where's my mom?"

"She is out and won't be back till later tonight."

"How did you know i was coming?" I was very curious since when your child, who you haven't seen in four years was now coming to live with you after her father died, you usually don't have your boyfriend take care of her. I thought that when you are dating someone, you usually don't tell them you have a six year old daughter until later in the relationship, when it gets serious.

"Your mother said you would be coming, and she asked me to take care of you while she is working."

I wonder what my mom does for a living since it is already late at night, and she wouldn't be home till later. I was erupted from my thoughts when I heard a loud thump, and I realized that he threw my bags on the ground. He started walking towards me with a beer bottle in his hand. I wasn't prepared for what happened next.
